Chapter One: Partings are such sweet sorrow
Exiled from Drangleic. Velstadt couldn't believe it. How could Raime have been so stupid to slander the King before the people? He even had the nerve to accuse Nashandra of manipulating her husband to do her bidding. Now the knight was banished from Drangleic, doomed to live out the rest of his days in the dangerous lands.
Velstadt missed the Raven. He was someone to talk to about anything and everything that concerned the Aegis. He was a good friend too and not too ugly; after all, he had to hang out with other dashing knights. Velstadt had to know where his friend was and how he was doing.
It didn't take long to find the brooding knight. He was before the grand staircase, a sword and shield equipped. "You brought this on yourself, Raime," Velstadt started, approaching the younger knight. "I don't know what overcame you to come forth with such wild accusations."
"Maybe it is because I was feeling ignored by everyone, especially you Velstadt. I thought we had something special between us," Raime sighed and tested the straps on his shield. "At least, you won't have to deal with my crazy opinions any longer. Farewell, my good friend."
He was leaving for good. The left-hand of the King, exiled. As he watched the other knight leave, Velstadt felt a pang of sadness rise up within him. No more fighting together. No more shared victories. An end of an era. "Wait," Velstadt called out.
"Velstadt, don't make this harder than it has to be. The king wants me gone." Raime stood tall and started to walk off, hoping he wouldn't have to look at Velstadt. He didn't know if he would be able to continue walking if he did.
Velstadt laid a hand on his arm, and turned him around, tightening his grip. "You're a fool, you know that. A stubborn fool." He then sighed. "Your presence will be missed." And I will mourn your absence the most, he added as an afterthought. Drangleic will never be the same.
"I thought I said that you shouldn't make it harder." A tear rolled down Raime's cheek as he rested a hand on the Aegis's shoulder. "You soppy, emotional pain in the ass. I don't know how I'll live without your wake-up calls." Raime had to choke back a sob as he realised all the things that he would never get to say to Velstadt.
Velstadt mustered up a smile. "Go. Don't ever return or I will be forced to kill you." If it had been any other knight, he would've gladly ended the life of the traitor, but bringing a blade to his friend's neck? That was too hard, and he couldn't do it. Instead, he suggested Raime be banished instead. At least, he'd have a chance to live still.
Raime turned away and placed his helm on his head. Now the tears could fall when Velstadt couldn't see them. Why must his emotions get in the way once again? "Thank you for being there, Velstadt." He shrugged the hand off and pushed open the doors of the castle before stepping outside.
"Farewell, old friend," Velstadt murmured before turning his back.
