Our story begins in a distant land. A land filled to the brim with magic and wonder. However, wherever there is light there will always be dark.
In the middle of this magic-filled land was a magnificent kingdom ruled by a wise and beloved queen. Her name was Pink Diamond. She had lost her mate to a horrible war many years ago. No one knew what happened to her mate, but after many years they declared died in action.
Pink Diamond, however, was not left alone. She had a daughter that, too, had grown to be wise and fair. She had named her Jasper. Nearly every monarch throughout the lands wished to gain the princess' hand when she would come of age.
Jasper was not one to follow tradition. She would most often be riding in the woods near a large lake and hunting for her people. Since she still was royalty, she was never allowed to go alone. She was usually accompanied by her advisor, Holly Blue Agate, and her best friend, Topaz.
Jasper and Topaz met when Topaz's mistress, Aquamarine, had come to Pink Diamond's kingdom to fix all that was lost in the war. Aquamarine wasn't really that nice to anybody except for Pink Diamond and Jasper. Jasper had guessed it was because they were do high up in the caste system.
Topaz never really talked, so it took forever before Jasper was able to get a word out of her. But once jasper did, they became close and eventually became best friends.
When Pink Diamond had seen the friendship the two had made, she gave Aquamarine a permanent place in her court in order to keep the two friends together.
Then there was Holly Blue Agate. Jasper and her didn't have much of a story. Holly Blue was really just assigned to help with keeping Jasper on the right track of being the princess and making sure she attends to her responsibilities. The two didn't relatively get along, but, seeing how they had no say in the matter, they made the best of it.
It was early morning, and the three of them were slowly riding their horses through the woods.
Topaz yawned. "I get that you're eager to get out of the castle again," she said. "But why are we out here at the crack of dawn?"
Holly rolled her eyes. "A princess must always rise early to begin her day," she said. "It is simple royal tradition. Not that I'd expect someone as low as an enchantress' pet to understand."
"Hey!" Topaz said. "I'm not Aquamarine's pet!"
"Oh, sorry," Holly said. "Would you prefer plaything? Pedestal?"
"Knock it off, you two," Jasper said look at them from over her shoulder. "If you keep fighting, you'll scare off every animal."
"S-s-sorry, your highness," Holly said clearing her throat.
"Sorry," Topaz said.
"It's okay," Jasper said redirecting her attention to the path in front of them. "Just jeep it down."
The three continued on into the woods until they came across a lake with many swans.
