Fic Scene from: He That Believeth in Me

Title: To Know The Truth

Genre: Angst/Drama

Rating: This is Kara's POV, so K+

Summary: A moment in Kara's return.

She's told she has been gone two months.

She's told by Lee, who she trusts with her life and Sam, who she has for some reason trusted with her heart. But she does not believe.

Her clock says six hours, her body only feels six hours.

She looks around wildly, to Galen who stares back with shock and fear, to Seelix who glares and scoots away, back to the two men that she loves mind and body. Both look incredulous.

They don't believe she is herself. They think she is a Cylon. They think she is delusional and controlled, programmed and used like a little marionette.

She looks up, ignores Tigh's sneer, and stares directly at the one person who has always protected her and believed in her. To Adama.

Her heart freezes in her chest.

There is relief for a moment, a sense of joy, but then it is smothered, swept away in a rush of logic. She has seen this before several times since the colonies were nuked, but never at her, never because she has become something inexplicable.

Silently she pleads with him, begs him to see that its her. Part of her balks at begging, at laying herself to be judged at the feet of another, but this is her Old Man. This is her protector, her father when she had none, her crying shoulder after Zak's funeral, her teacher and her friend. A part of her life can be filed as centering around this man, his ship, his sons, his trust.

And she has lost it. She returns to serve, to make good on his belief in her, and she can see by the grief winning over hope, by the pain masking the joy, that she has been cast out of a place she knows that in death she would command attention in forever. The Old Man's heart once had a small area labeled 'Kara Thrace', but now it is a hole like the ones another daughter of his heart put through him. One bullet for Boomer, one for herself.

She looks away, closes her eyes and listens for the sound of his voice ready to toss her in the brig.

For some reason instead, all she can hear is the rain.

Guess being tired and watching BSG is good for my brain...
