I jumped off the shelf, getting a boost into the air. I cut down the shadows, splitting my bo staff in half, turning it into easier to use batons.

"Hey, Ali, you still in there, right?" Maddy comed me. She was back at the base, experimenting on the sacred light.

"Doing good," I replied as a hit the ground. The warehouse was eerily quite, and there were strangely no shadows around. I, however, did not let my guard down. I hadn't since the day Maddy was taken.

I tread carefully into the office, where a letter from Jared was supposedly waiting.

"So good of you to join the party," a melodic voice crooned.

"J'sheera," the Queen Of Shadows walked out from where she had been hiding.

"Good to see you, Ali, for I am ready to destroy you outright." I pulled out my staff, wielding it.

J'sheera recoiled a bit, but quickly regained her composure. My staff was embued with the holy light, the only thing strong enough to destroy a shadow. I had almost destroyed her once using it, but I showed mercy for the sake of my sister.

I do not plan to show such mercy again.

I snarled, ready to lunge, until I saw it. It was peculiar, a swirling blue hole in the middle of the floor. J'sheera followed my gaze.

"Oh, that," she laughed, an empty, hollow sound that filled the room. "That, Ali, is my portal to a new realm, where I can claim my fortune as queen." she smiled, teeth gleaming in the low light. "And this, she cried, is how I plan to destroy you!"

Before I could realize what was happening, she hit me. With what, I'm not sure, but between the shadow's and the power of the portal combined with J'sheera's strength, I flew back and hit the wall, slumping to the floor.

I saw J'sheera disappear through the portal, unable to stop her.

I'm sorry, Maddy. I'm sorry. I couldn't save you. I tried. I'm sorry.

The last thing I heard before I blacked out was Maddy's voice.

"Ali! Ali!"
