60. "If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world."
There they were, lying on the dock. Their dock. She was in his arms and he was stroking her hair. They watched the stars.
"I just want to stay here. Freeze time. Be here with you. Forever." He whispered.
"Me too."
The summer was ending. It had gone much too fast, and soon they'd both be thrust back into reality. They'd be apart for God-knew-how-long, dealing with the many things that came with fame. Back into the cold, harsh, cruel, fast-moving world.
"I wish life was more like the stars. They move but they never change abruptly. They're always there. Reliable. Beautiful. All the time."
"Let's pretend like life is like that. At least for tonight, okay?"
"Okay."
"I love you, Shane." She turned her head and kissed his cheek.
"I love you, Mitchie."
They wouldn't talk about the future. They wouldn't talk about the past. They were going to live in the moment, not caring what happened or what was going to happen. It was only right now that really mattered. It was only right here that they would be tonight. Right here, right now. That was all.
"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. Did you know that, Mitch?"
"No, I didn't know that."
"Well, you are."
She kissed his lips. It was good to be the best thing that ever happened to someone. It made her feel special, important, loved.
He sang softly to her for hours. She watched him in fascination, grateful that she was his, he was hers. They were made for each other and no one would ever be able to separate them. So they didn't waste their time worrying about what was going to happen. Her head was on his chest, his arms were around her, holding her close to him, and they were breathing in the incredibility of being together. That was all they needed.
Oh, boy. I really hope you liked that cheesefest I just wrote. I love that lyric, though! Please review! Thanks for reading. :)
