They were all knackered.

At 2:02am in the morning, Adam ran his hand over his haggard features. The latest sheaf of depositions in hand, he passed Lisa. "Cassie?" A one worded question was all he could manage.

Lisa couldn't manage any words, simply jerking her head in the direction of the office to her right.

Obediently following the unspoken instructions, Adam stepped into the room and came up short.

It took several long seconds for his tired brain to process that he was not seeing the face of Cassie Reynolds, but rather the long legs of the same lawyer.

"Cassie?" he queried as he shifted. "Everything alright?"

He found her lying on the ground, legs propped up on the wall, a crushed jacket he vaguely recognised as Tommy's beneath her head.

There were neat stacks of papers beside her, and she held a thick wad in hand, propped up against her very pregnant belly, highlighter in hand.

Cassie was equally tired as the rest of them, rings blatantly obvious beneath her eyes, but there was a steely determination in her eyes that dared anyone to suggest she do otherwise.

Adam opened his mouth anyway. "Cassie…"

"Don't bother," said Harry as she passed the door, "Ollie's been trying to get her to go home all night."

Adam opened his mouth and shut it again. "Here's the latest batch," was all he managed, thrusting the papers out.

When he returned half an hour later, he marched into the office without warning. His ready words died on his lips at the sight before him.

Cassie remained on the floor, legs propped against the wall, but the difference here was that Ollie was now squatted down beside her. As Adam watched, he saw the tenderness in his touch as he rested his hand on where his unborn child grew, and then caressed his wife's leg.

Cassie had no objection, and her smile was even warm as she reached out to caress the cocky lawyer's cheek. And when they both turned to him moments later, clearly comfortable and unashamed in the presence of the other, he felt like an intruder.

"Yeah Adam?"

"Um?" Stuck like a deer in headlights, he fumbled for words.

"I'll come back."

Finito.
