A/N: A drabble set after Doomsday, just Rose alone with her thoughts. Spoilers for Doomsday.

I don't own Doctor Who. xx

"And I suppose, if it's my last chance to say it…" The Doctor paused. "Rose Tyler…" And then he was gone.

Sometimes Rose Tyler dreamed.

She dreamed that he hadn't disappeared, that he'd stayed.

She dreamed that it had gone the other way, that she ended up in the TARDIS and they'd continued flying around the universe, seeing everything, saving worlds.

Rose and her Doctor, doing what they did best.

Most of all she dreamed about what he had been going to say next. Deep down she knew what it had been going to be, but she couldn't help but wonder.

Wonder if he'd cared at all, or if he was like that with all his companions.

Wonder if he'd been going to say anything at all; maybe her name was enough.

But it didn't really matter: the Doctor was gone and there was nothing she could do about it. She loved him with all her heart and she knew always would. But now, a year on, she thought that maybe she could keep going.

Keep going with her mum and dad, who were happy and loved her.

Keep going with her new baby brother who she loved because he was a beam of hope and fresh beginnings in her world, when she had lost so much.

Keep going with Micky, because he'd been there and he understood, and they worked at Torchwood together.

She had to keep going with her job, she knew that. Her job was her connection to the world which she had lost, they world which she missed so very, very much. She was making a difference, people respected her, they knew her.

And she loved it. It was familiar, it was home. Almost as much home as that crazy blue box which was bigger on the inside and travelled through the time vortex, just because it could.

That was what she was going to tell her children, when they asked for a bedtime story. She was going to tell them about the magical man in the suit, who flew across the stars in a tiny spaceship, saving planets and civilisations.

Rose Tyler's Doctor, the man she loved beyond belief. He was still out there, she knew, and he would be for a long time, she knew that too. She wasn't with him, and she regretted that. But she was with her family, her job, her whole new world, and it was home.

"And I suppose, if it's my last chance to say it…" The Doctor paused. "Rose Tyler…I love you." And then he was gone.
