Today Uncle Duo asked me what my favorite flower was. I told him it was the forget-me-not, exactly like the one Daddy gave me before he went back to outerspace. Then he asked me why it was my favorite flower, and I told him it was because Daddy gave it to me. When I said that, Uncle Duo got a weird look in his eyes and patted me on the head like I was only 2. I guess he forgot that I'm already 5.
After awhile, he asked me to give him another reason. I couldn't, because the only reason was that Daddy gave it to me. I thought it was a very good reason, but Uncle Duo didn't understand. So I had to explain it to him.
Just before Daddy left me and Mommy, he hugged me and gave me the blue flower and called me his little treasure. Then he made me promise him that I'll always stay strong like his present so that I can take care of Mommy when he was gone. Everyday I water the flower and it reminds me of Daddy, and I know that it's his special way of making sure that I keep being strong.
At night, when Mommy is trying so hard not to cry, I always go look at the flower so that I can remember my promise. It's so hard not to forget, when Daddy's not there anymore to talk to me.
Once, I asked Mommy when Daddy would come home, and she smiled in a weird way and told me that he would never come back. She told me that he was somewhere else, where he was happy. I asked her why he wasn't happy here. She said that he was, but he had to go to the other place, where he was watching over us. Then her eyes became gray and she went into the room she shared with Daddy and didn't come out until dinner.
When I finished, Uncle Duo still looked confused. Finally, I said, "The forget-me-not is Daddy's way of saying…forget me not."
