The crying wouldn't stop. No matter how hard Olivia tried to stop it, nothing would work and the tears would keep streaming down her face and it seemed to be making everything so much worse than they already were. Olivia hated crying, it was stupid and only something that silly little girls did when nothing went their way and she was no silly little girl. She was twelve years old and no girl at all. But yet she had been crying for most of the morning and Ted-Dad was worried that she was going to become sick or something because of all the crying. Today was a very bad day and it wasn't just because of all the crying, Steve was being sent away to the mainland today. Both him and Mary were going away but Mary wasn't leaving until tomorrow. Her friend was leaving today – Olivia used the word friend loosely with Steve as she wasn't' sure she could call him a friend as he spent most of his time teasing her. Olivia didn't want him to go, she wanted Steve to stay as she liked having him around as he wasn't like all the other boys that she knew. He didn't treat her like some china doll because of the dead mom thing, Steve always shared his fried shrimp and he didn't mind watching those rated r scary movies with her or coming with Olivia to Diamond Head first thing in the morning – he liked to pretend it was a chore especially when she came over at 8am but Olivia knew the truth, he liked it as much as she did. As much as Olivia didn't want to admit it but she was going to miss Steve a lot, things wouldn't be the same without him or Mary and things were going to be a lot quieter. Olivia didn't like any of this, too much had changed. Mrs. McGarrett dying was one thing but Steve and Mary leaving to go the mainland was something else and that had been too much for Olivia. They all used to make fun of the people who came from the mainland and now Steve was going off to be one of them. He'd leave and never come back again, he would forget them all and make new friends for himself and things would never be the same again.
That scared Olivia, it terrified her twelve year old self and it was what had brought her to the airport along with her dad. Things were that bad that Olivia was gripping onto her father's hand as tight as she could and she never held hands with Ted-Dad. Stuff like holding her dad's hands and giving him hugs were things that Olivia Phillips never did with her father. They weren't those kids of people. She was one of the boys but for the first time in a very long time, Olivia was a worried little girl who had turned to her father when she needed him most. If it wasn't because of the serious nature of today, Olivia would have laughed about how silly her Ted-Dad was acting, even though she was the one crying, he had been the one acting like a rather clueless not to mention headless chicken. Her daddy always knew what to do but today he seemed unable to understand what was going on. Everett and Grady found this all funny and so would have Olivia, if she was able to stop crying for more than ten minutes at a time.
"I don't see them dad!" Olivia wailed, there were so many people at the airport that she could see Steve or his dad at all. Everyone was so much taller than her that it was making it impossible for Olivia to see anything at all. Never had Olivia hated being so short in her life, until this very moment. No matter how hard she looked, Olivia couldn't see the McGarrett's anywhere but she knew that they had to be here somewhere. They had checked already and Steve's flight hadn't even boarded yet.
"It's okay, I see them Olivia." Ted Phillips stated with a tired expression on his face, offering Olivia a smile that she knew was forced. She may be the kid here but even she knew when her dad was putting on an act for people, he had been doing it pretty much her entire life especially when the subject of Olivia's mother came up. The forced smile was Ted's way of pretending that he was fine when everything was the furthest thing from being fine. That smile always made an appearance around the wedding anniversary time.
"Y-You had better not be lying to me Ted." Olivia hiccuped, looking at her father with a tremendous amount of spite whilst falling into her very bad habit of addressing her father by his given name. He didn't mind when she called him Ted-Dad but for some reason her dad had a major issue with her calling him Ted.
"I'm not Little Cactus." Ted retorted narrowing his eyes ever so slightly at Olivia and she just responded by squeezing her father's hand even tighter. "Christ! You're going to break my hand if you carry on like this Olivia. You really need to lay off the spinach kiddo and calling me Ted, we've talked about this Liv."
"Dad, later!" Olivia whined and with a small sigh her father began to lead her through the crowded airport, navigating the two of them through the crowds to somewhere beyond Olivia's line of sight. It seemed like forever for Olivia but in reality it was far less than a minute until she caught sight of both the sixteen year old Steve and his father John, both awkwardly sitting together on one of those uncomfortable plastic looking seats not saying a word to each other. It wasn't a surprise to see them both like that as things have been sort of like that ever since Mrs. McGarrett had died.
"Ted… Olivia, what are you doing here?" John McGarrett began as he rose from his seat, the surprise was as clear as day on his face and Olivia could only look at the ground as now she felt incredibly stupid about this whole thing. Steve was going to have a field day with this, he was probably never going to let Olivia forget about this for as long as she lived. Now Olivia just wanted her dad to take her home and allow her to hide under her bed for the rest of her life.
"Sorry about this John, it seems like Cactus isn't quite ready to say goodbye yet and she's become quite upset about Steve going away. We've got to the point where she's come close to dehydrating herself because of how worked up she's getting. I thought the house was going to fall apart at the seams if I didn't so something about it. You know what Liv's like when it comes to goodbyes..." Ted stated and Olivia just sighed as her old man was just being more embarrassing than he normally was.
"Oh Olivia, you've always had the biggest heart of them all." John replied with a small smile before motioning over to Steve who hadn't said anything, he had just been sitting down with a stoic expression on his face. Well he had been up until he caught sight of Olivia and her face which caused him to smile for the first time in what seemed like forever ever since his mother had died. Olivia could only take this to mean that her face was a real sight for sore eyes and the tears had probably made her face a lobster red colour.
Picking up what little remained of her dignity, Olivia let go of her father's hand and shuffled over to where Steve was now standing and waiting rather expectantly on her.
"What's up with you? I thought you didn't know how to cry?" Steve questioned and the mere jesting tone in his voice, caused Olivia to go from hugely embarrassed to super annoyed in mere seconds. Of course Steve was going to embarrass her, there was no way in hell that he was going to sympathise with her over this. He wouldn't be touched that Olivia was so upset over him leaving, he was just amused that he had even more material to tease her with.
"I am not crying!" Olivia barked in annoyance as she furiously tried to wipe away her tears in order to regain some of her pride.
"If you say so." Steve quipped with a small laugh.
"I have allergies."
"Yeah to mangos, not to emotions squirt."
"Don't call me that Steven! Squirt is what you call a baby and I am not a baby! If you don't quit it McGarrett than I'm going to force you to have a talk with a fist!" Olivia retorted as she went about waving her left fist around in an angry manner in order to support her threat of violence.
"Really Liv? How the hell have you managed to get into some kind of fight between since I saw you last night and now? I thought we talked about this fighting thing?" Steve questioned as he grabbed Olivia's left wrist when she waved her hand a little too close to him and Olivia just blanched as the two of them looked at her knuckled which were a little bruised and cut up. Oh crap! This wasn't good… Olivia knew she was going to be in trouble for this later on as daddy didn't like it when she got into fights. Maybe if she cried enough then dad would let it go, it always seemed to work when she was about to be on the receiving end of a Ted-Dad lecture. For some reason her dad didn't know what to do when she cried except give her an awkward pat on the head before making some excuse and walking off. Quite often forgetting that he was in the midst of telling Olivia off. Sometimes when it was really bad then he would get Everett to take her out for ice-cream whilst he went to sit in his office and make himself a stiff drink. Today was already shaping up to be one of those days, so perhaps Olivia might not get into trouble for getting into another fight. A couple of sniffles could do the trick…
"It wasn't my fault." Olivia grumbled.
"Like I haven't heard that one before…" Steve drawled in amusement and Olivia just pouted in annoyance.
"Fine… If you must know everything Steven, Manu Pekelo did something so bad that I got really mad. He did something unforgivable and I don't care what you or dad says, I'm not saying sorry. He got what he deserved for calling me a girl!" Olivia reluctantly allowed herself to admit
"You hit him because he called you a girl? Olivia, you are a girl."
"I am not!" Olivia hissed in annoyance as she wasn't a girl, she didn't wear dresses and she didn't play with dolls or talk about boys. She liked climbing and running around all day to the point where her clothes were covered in mud. Olivia was one of the boys, she loved to go fishing and ride her bike. She was learning how to surf and she loved action and horror films. Olivia had never owned a tea set, she only wore her hair in braids so it didn't get in her face and she knew as many curse words as a drunken sailor. She played baseball and lacrosse and never wanted to grow up and by someone's wife. She was one of the guys and Olivia didn't care what anyone else said, she was not a girl!
"Funny little Liv, you are something else do you know that? You are the weirdest kid I have ever met but I guess that's what makes you Olivia I suppose. I'm going to miss you most out of every one here I think."
"So you won't forget about me?" Olivia hopefully asked, the words coming out of her mouth before she knew what she was doing and she couldn't help but awkwardly look away. Now Steve was going to think she was an even bigger idiot than before.
"Is this what all the tears are about? Are you worried that I'm going to forget about you? Seriously? After everything? You think I would forget about someone so important to me?" Steve questioned, there was no jest to his voice as he was being dead serious and Olivia grimly nodded her head as there was no point in denying it as it was pretty much obvious to them all. "Me forget about you? Never going to happen squirt, I couldn't forget about you even if I wanted to Olivia. Besides this isn't goodbye, right? We'll see each other again otherwise I'll have to find somebody else to tease and you would never allow that to happen. There's no way I could ever forget about you Olivia Phillips."
"You promise?" Olivia questioned, her voice crackling ever so slightly.
"Yeah, now come here Liv." Steve replied with a small smile, motioning for Olivia to come to him so he could hug her but she didn't move an inch. Because this behaviour was very much unlike Steve, he was not a hugger. He hated hugs. One time he had been forced to carry Olivia home after she had sprained her ankle a couple of years ago and Olivia hadn't heard the end of it for two weeks after the incident because Steve had been forced to carry her bridal style. It had been his fault, he had stuck his foot out and tripped Olivia up whilst she had been chasing after her brothers.
"You don't like giving hugs." Olivia sniffled, feeling the need to point out the glaringly obvious.
"I cannot believe you have the nerve to say that to me after I've been forced to make an exception for you. Anyway it's not so bad with you I guess, so come on already Liv! I don't have all day." Steve retorted, making a vague reference to the two hugs that Olivia had shared with him in the most recent weeks. Once again wiping her eyes, Olivia took a couple of steps closer to Steve and wrapped her arms around him and she felt him responded with little discomfort as he tucked her head under his chin.
Olivia had been right in saying that Steve hated hugs in general, he didn't like to receive them or give them but when his mother had died, Steve had been sort of weird. He was really quiet and was pretty much frozen. Olivia had gathered up her courage and had given him a hug because she didn't know what to say, her mom had died before she had even properly got to meet her. Then there was the day of the funeral, Steve had been really bad that day. Olivia had never seen Steve act so unlike himself, he was quiet and closed off but he was very upset. However he didn't cry. He hadn't cried not once since finding out his mother had died. But there was this moment after the funeral, Steve had thought he was by himself but Olivia had been there. She had been watching him and waited for the sadness to come. She knew it would come because Steve was sad like her daddy was sad but kept it all on the inside because he didn't want to worry anyone. Unable to help herself Olivia had gone over and hugged him right in front of his mother's grave and Steve had started crying, right there and then. It was their secret, one that Olivia would never tell anyone else.
"You had better not forget me McGarrett otherwise I'll come to the mainland and I'll kick your ass and I don't care how bad Ted-Dad will scold me!"
"Don't go changing Liv."
Hawaii was the closest thing to heaven in Olivia Phillips' opinion, it was a beautiful island and just looking out of your window in the morning reminded her that she was living almost in paradise. It was home to her. Today was a beautiful day like every other day in Hawaii but the beautiful day had no effect on Olivia's mood, in fact Olivia was in a rather bleak mood as she was at the funeral of an old family friend. John McGarrett was someone Olivia had known most of her life ever since she was a child as John had been a friend of her late father and had been a huge part of her life and he was being laid to rest after being murdered in his own home. John had been more than a friend to Olivia, he had been more like a second father to her and since she was back in Hawaii on leave after returning from a tour of duty, Olivia felt duty bound to attend the funeral in order to pay her respects. Even dressing in her service uniform as it was the right thing to do. Just being here brought up memories for Olivia about her own father's funeral, he had passed away six years previously and she hadn't made it. Olivia had been overseas on deployment when her father had suffered a fatal heart attack and she was unable to make it back in time for the funeral. It was something that Olivia hadn't quite forgiven herself for missing so there was no way that she was going to miss John's funeral. Never had she imagined that she would be here, Olivia had kept in regular contact with John even when she was away and since she had arrived back in Hawaii she had been meaning to go and see John as she needed to talk to him about something he had said to her but she never got around to seeing him as she kept getting distracted by things and now it was too late. Olivia had stood behind the majority of mourners, most of them members of Honolulu PD and dressed in their dress blues as they said goodbye to their fallen officer. It wasn't the first time Olivia had been to a funeral and it sure as hell wasn't going to be the last time she went to a funeral of someone she knew.
The funeral had ended a little while ago and everyone was passing on their condolences towards John's family but Olivia still stood off in the distance, no wanting to come any further. Because if she did then she would start crying and that was the last thing that Olivia wanted to do as she wouldn't be able to stop herself as over the years she had lost a lot of people she had cared about. Plus her brothers were still lurking around the cemetery and Olivia wasn't in the mood to make idle small talk with them. As much as Olivia loved her brothers, they were always funny around her when it came to death, it was probably due to the fact that they had come pretty close to having to bury her after injuries she received in the line of duty. Today wasn't about Olivia or the weird and wonderfully dysfunctional relationship that she shared with her brothers. Today was about John and him being laid to rest. There was still this huge part of Olivia that she still couldn't believe that she was here as John McGarrett had been a good man who had spent most of his life protecting and serving. He had served in Vietnam and been a cop with the Honolulu Police Department up until his retirement. John McGarrett had been one of the best men that Olivia had known and she knew a lot of people said that about people who they had lost but for her, John had been the real deal. He had been one of the few people to ever really understand her, to take the choices she made seriously and put up with all the bullshit she had done throughout her adolescence. John had done so much for so many people, he had deserved better than to die in his own home at the hands of a man named Victor Hesse.
From where she stood Olivia could make out the figure of John's eldest child and only son Steve. Like her, Steve was in the service but whilst Olivia had joined the army, Steve was in the navy and had quite the reputation from what Olivia had heard. The two of them had kept in touch rather sporadically after Steve and his sister Mary had left for the mainland not long after their mother Doris had passed away in a car accident. Olivia hadn't seen Steve in a couple of years, it was hard to make time given their careers and the fact they were both on the move a lot, both coming and going from deployments. Regardless of that Olivia would recognise Steve anywhere. It was hard not to as Steve had always been a bit of a looker and that hadn't changed. The ruggedly handsome, tall and dark haired man with such expressive eyes that had always managed to get Olivia into some kind of trouble when they were kids. Olivia had spotted Steve instantly when she had arrived at the cemetery and now she watched as Steve went about shaking hands with everyone who had turned up to pay their respects. It was such a stark contrast from the last time Olivia had last seen Steve, they were both over on the mainland and had a tiny bit of leave and they had planned to go out for dinner but somehow they ended up getting distracted and drinking in some dive bar until 2am. It was surreal how so many things had changed since then and Olivia couldn't help but sigh as she stood there and continued to watch Steve until his wondered over and spotted her. Olivia wasn't one for tooting her horn much but she knew that Steve had recognized her and Olivia let out a small weary smile.
It didn't take long for Steve to detach himself from the gaggle of Honolulu PD that were still hanging around and make his way over to her. There was this huge wave of nostalgia that came over Olivia as this was the first time that her and Steve had both been back in Hawaii at the same time. After his father had sent Steve and his sister to the mainland, he had never come back. Not for the holidays, any birthdays or for a vacation. For Olivia, it spoke a lot of volumes for her that Steve had come back home for his father's funeral. Upon Steve coming to a stop right in front of her, Olivia stood at attention and raised her arm to salute him and Steve followed suit and Olivia saluted him and Steve returned the salute. Despite the fact that Olivia was in the army and Steve was in the navy, it was a customary sign of respect to salute a fellow member of the armed services.
"Sergeant Phillips."
"Lieutenant Commander McGarrett." Olivia began using formalities before she decided to drop them once the need for them had passed and she took a step forward hugged Steve despite the fact that she knew he really wasn't the hugging type. But Olivia hadn't seen him in two years and Steve had just buried his father, so he was getting a hug whether or not he liked it and she knew Steve would make an exception for her. He always did with Olivia when it came to the hugging thing.
"Hey soldier." Steve began with a weak smile using one of Olivia's many nicknames but solider was a personal one, it was something that was just between the two of them. Steve would call Olivia soldier and in return she would call him sailor. It had started about nine years ago after Olivia had completed basic training and at first it was something Steve used to tease her, but down the line it had turned into a term of endearment.
"Hello sailor." Olivia quietly replied.
"It's good to see you Liv."
"Right back at you Steve… I'm so sorry about your father Steve, I know that you've probably heard this a million times already but you have my deepest condolences and I'm here if you need anything." Olivia replied as she looked over towards the grave site, it was only fitting that John had been buried next to his late wife Joan. Olivia could still remember Joan's funeral, the death of Mrs. McGarrett had come as a shock to them all and it was her passing that changed everything.
"It means a lot to me that you're here Liv, when I saw Grady and Everett arrive and I didn't see you, I was worried that you weren't going to show. Your brothers said that you don't like funerals and you get a bit weird about them for obvious reasons. I don't know if that's true but I'm glad that you came today as you and your brothers are the only people here that I recognize. I have no clue as to who everyone else here is, absolute strangers have been talking to me about my dad and how great an officer he was and I didn't know what to say. But I do know that it would have meant a lot to him that you came today, I know he was very fond of you."
"Ignore my brothers, they don't know what they are talking about as I don't think anybody likes funerals and I am not weird about them. But of course I was going to come, it was the least I could do. John was my dad's oldest friend and he meant a lot to me, so course I was going to come and pay my respects. It's the least I could do after everything your dad did when my old man passed away." Olivia replied in a reassuring manner as she had been deployed overseas when her father had passed away but John had helped her older brothers make the funeral arrangements and made sure that things went the way they should. He had even come with Olivia to the cemetery when she finally was able to come home and say goodbye to her father.
"This wasn't how I was expecting to come back home after being gone for 18 years." Steve noted and Olivia wearily nodded as she could understand albeit briefly what he was going through. Coming back to bury his father probably wasn't the way Steve had envisioned coming home to Hawaii. There was a part of Olivia that was still in disbelief that she was actually standing here with Steve as she never imagined he would come home. Over the years, Olivia had all but begged Steve to come back to Hawaii for a visit but he had always turned her down. She had always suspected that Steve's reluctance to come back home was related to his mother's death, so when she had heard that John McGarrett had died, she wasn't sure if Steve would actually shOW up. But here he was.
"Any leads into what happened? The papers aren't saying much and the police are being equally as vague." Olivia asked as she looked over towards the coffin, she was aware of the fact that Steve's father had been killed in his own home. The place where Olivia had spent some rather good times as a child, even after she had grown up and was back home in Hawaii when she was on leave. From the connections that her father had built up around the city from when he was alive, Olivia had found out through those associates that the McGarrett murder had been pretty brutal and John had been executed in his house and there had been signs of a beating before he had been killed. Olivia couldn't help but possible imagine all the ways, John McGarrett a man who had been like a second father to her, had been tortured until he had been executed.
"We're working on it." Steve said and Olivia wearily nodded along until she realised that she had heard Steve say that we're working on it. As in he was working his father's murder which Olivia wasn't even sure was possible, let alone ethical.
"What do you mean we're working on it? Since when did the infamous Steve McGarrett bad ass Navy Seal become a cop? I thought hell itself would have to burn to the ground before you turned in that wet suit of yours!" Olivia questioned in an offbeat manner in an attempt to lighten the mood a bit and her question got her a real and genuine smile from Steve.
"Governor Jameson offered me a task force to run, to find Victor Hesse and bring him to justice and to clean up Hawaii by any means necessary, full immunity included and no political red tape involved. It's an interesting job offer and even though I did turn it down, I'll admit I am a bit tempted especially if that means avenging my dad's death and getting Hesse. It'll mean transferring to the reserves but that wouldn't be the end of the world." Steve revealed and Olivia had to admit she was very surprised to hear about Steve contemplating a career change given that he practically lived and breathed the Navy. It was pretty much all he had ever wanted to do from what Olivia could remember, it had something to do with his family as Steve was a third generation naval man and he had been named after his grandfather who had served on the USS Arizona and had during the attacks on Pearl Harbour. The Navy meant everything to Steve so the idea that he would even consider the idea of transferring to the reserves was surprising to Olivia. Although she wouldn't really blame him if he did as Olivia had to admit that this whole task force was very interesting especially the immunity and no red tape part.
"So does this mean you're going to be home for good if you decide to take up this job offer?" Olivia questioned as whilst she had seen Steve over the years, she had never seen him in Hawaii. Steve hadn't come back to the island since his mother's death until now. After the death of his mother, Steve's father had sent him and his sister Mary to the mainland and neither of them had been back after that. Anytime Olivia had seen Steve or Mary was when she was on the mainland which wasn't too often given that she was frequently away on deployments and if she wasn't on a tour of duty than she was back here in Hawaii.
"Maybe, I did say I was thinking about taking the job."
"That's good, I guess… I haven't seen Mary around, is she here?" Olivia asked as she had been expecting to see Steve's sister Mary but not at one point during the entire funeral had she seen the younger McGarrett.
"Um… She couldn't make it." Steve replied in an awkward manner and Olivia didn't press the matter any further as she knew things between the McGarrett siblings hadn't been great for the last few years. When their father sent them to the mainland after their mother's death they had been separated and had rather limited contact with each other. Olivia knew that Mary had some troubles, she had a few minor brush ins with the law but nothing too serious and it was just a major contrast between the straight laced life Steve lived. It was a shame that the two of them weren't close anymore but it wasn't any of Olivia's business. "So how long are you going be around Liv? It would be good to catch up as the last time we saw each other, you were about to head back out for another six months in the sandpit and that was a while ago."
"You've actually caught me in between deployments, I'm just back from a thirteen month tour of duty and I've got a bit of leave. So I'll be around for a little bit if you want to get together and catch up over some beers." Olivia replied with a small smile as she thought back to when Steve and her last saw each other. It was a little over two years ago and somehow their paths had managed to cross in California and Olivia was about to go back on a tour of duty for six months. She remembered precisely what tour of duty Steve was referring to given that she hadn't exactly wanted to come home from it.
"Thirteen months, huh? How was it?" Steve asked and whilst it seemed like it was a perfectly innocent question, Olivia knew Steve was really asking about how she was doing since coming back from her deployment. Thirteen months was a long time to be deployed in a war zone and they both knew it. In the last six years Olivia had spent close to about just over four years overseas on tours and she had been in the army for almost nine years now. During her time overseas on duty, Olivia had met a lot of people, done a lot of things and seen some things, which she wished she had never seen. Going to war had been something else entirely for her and it hadn't been an easy thing. Years ago on her first tour, Olivia had been naïve and unprepared for what she was going to see, nothing could have ever really prepared her for that. Years later Olivia had adapted to the reality of being in a war but that didn't mean that she was invincible from the effects from it. But right now that wasn't the most important thing at the moment as today wasn't about her, so Olivia was more than happy to deflect any and all attention off of her.
"Hot as hell and very long, as you might expect but I don't have to tell you that Steve." Olivia quipped in an offbeat manner.
"You doing okay?"
"Always am."
"Olivia…" Steve began and Olivia could see that he didn't quite believe her but then again nobody ever did, they just assumed that something had to be wrong with her given that she had just completed another tour of duty and was a bit standoffish about the whole matter. The truth Olivia just preferred not to talk about it in general with anybody.
"Steven I am fine, look at me… I am standing right in front of you with not even a hair out of place. I came back in pretty much the same condition I was in when I left although I am about five pounds lighter now. But everything is good with me, I had a little bit of trouble sleeping when I got back due to all the travelling and the jet lag but that's not an issue anymore. I'm happy to be back in Hawaii and be able to spend time with my family. I appreciate the concern but today isn't about me. It's about your dad. It's about you. I'm supposed to be asking the questions about how you're doing, not the other way around." Olivia stated as she moved things along, as she didn't want to really be talking about herself and she didn't particularly like talking about her time overseas. It was complicated not to mention messy and very much bloody. Olivia guessed she had made herself pretty clear on the subject as Steve looked away and sighed before turning back to her.
"Liv, do you have anywhere to be?" Steve questioned and Olivia didn't know what to say at first as she guessed she didn't have anywhere to be now as she had come and done what she had needed to. She had come to the funeral, paid her respects and spoken to Steve so really there was nothing else for Olivia to be doing here so she could leave.
"I told you I have time and you know I always have time for you." Olivia said in a reassuring manner as whatever Steve needed from her, she would more than willingly give as the two of them went back a long way. It was at least she could do for both Steve and John.
"You want to get out of here?" Steve asked and Olivia nodded her head, she was more than ready to leave the cemetery as it was too beautiful of a day to be standing in a rather depressing place after saying goodbye to an old family friend. Being here just reminded Olivia of the fact that just like Steve, she hadn't been here when her own father had died.
"Sure, do you have any place in mind that you want to go?" Olivia replied as she figured that Steve would probably want to go to some bar and have some drinks in memory of his father. It's what Olivia had done when she had finally come home, visited her father's grave and went to the first bar she could find and drank her sorrows away and her father hadn't been murdered. He had died of a heart attack.
"My father's house."
