Life is a Lemon (let us make lemonade)

Based on the fabulous Bat out of Hell:The Musical .

Zahara/Falco

Zahara finds her way to Obsidian and to Falco Tower.

In no way do I own or have any links to the characters in this piece, I am not Jim Steinman or Meat Loaf nor have I even met them. In other words: not mine just borrowing.

Zahara had always wanted to help people, her proudest achievement was being accepted into nursing school at 18. The world had opened up to her and she was determined to make a difference.

Then it happened

Or rather, it didn't.

Slowly, as she saw her classmates grow and change and develop through their years of learning then into their first jobs she watched them age. She saw the wrinkles begin to form, laughter lines, crows feet. Her skin stayed smooth and clear. She'd heard about this, the Mutation. It was rare, as unusual as any genetic defect could be, it made her genes freeze and her body hold itself in a perpetual state of being 18.

18 forever.

18 with no cellular degeneration.

18 with no aging, indefinitely.

It was not researched. People were scared of the Mutation. They became terrified of their own children simply because time didn't affect them.

'Jealousy.' Zahara initially believed. 'We can learn and grow and teach and succeed without the risk of dementia, brittle bones and all the other horrors of being old.'

Soon, after 10 or 15 years of being 18, she found that being 18 for eternity also came with the penalties of being a constant teenager. Hormones raging, angst and anger at a world that didn't understand. That didn't want to understand.

She was a good nurse, she acquired many skills and credentials, but was unable to stay in a job longer than 5 years, 8 maybe if she was lucky. People noticed after a while that she still looked as young as the day she started, it could be passed off for a time but eventually it was leave or be persecuted for her blessing and her curse.

I hope you like this, it's my first fic and is just setting the scene so far. All feedback appreciated.

If you haven't seen the musical yet, go if you can. It is amazing.
