"Rather anticlimactic, really…"
Ginny grimaced, as the irreversible poison burned in her veins and her life bled from many cuts on her body. She looked over the bloodied battlefield. Light did not suffer many casualties that day, fortunately. Unfortunately, those casualties it suffered brought more pain than imaginable.
It was Harry's plan, to barricade everyone else, including Dumbledore, in the school and face the force Voldemort amassed by themselves: the original six who followed Harry to Department of Mysteries in that ill fated excursion two years ago.
Now it ended…
Rather anticlimactically, really…
Voldemort lay dead… His body turned to fine dust with a high level battle curse from Harry, and his soul was destroyed when he tried to possess the nearest being he had a bond to: Harry himself. Harry and his soul mate, Hermione, used their bond and combined power to trap the Dark Lord's spirit and smother it with the love they felt for each other.
From that point onwards, everything went downhill.
Dark Mark did not incapacitate the Death Eaters like they predicted. It whipped them into mindless blood frenzy. They attacked with curses, swords, even bare hands, and fought until they died.
Harry fell in the first wave of curses, to the Killing Curse. His face only registered surprise, shocked that he killed the most powerful dark wizard in a century, but fell to a maddened Death Eater's curse.
Hermione fell when she attacked the Death Eaters in a rage. She shredded the one who killed Harry, Lucius Malfoy, but an explosion curse shattered her body. She fell next to her lover.
Ron died moments later, crushed by a branded giant's club. Luna, his fiancée, died when she rushed to his side heedless of her safety, her head severed by a dismembering curse. Her body toppled over his beaten form, and her head rolled to rest on the crook of his bent neck.
Neville, in his animagus form, a white tiger, was ripped to shreds by a pack of vampires, while trying to protect Ginny. Ginny killed them, but only after Neville died and transformed back in death, by grabbing his wand and shouting the lethal spell: Lumos Solem. They went down, but not before one of their number, namely Bellatrix Lestrange, managed to put a poisoned dagger through Ginny's lung.
Ginny wheezed with pain, and blood leaked from the corner of her mouth as she sat, her back to Neville's bloodied and still form. She could see Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall running towards them in her dimming vision. 'We should have guessed that Headmaster would break through the barriers.' She thought idly; as the elderly man kneeled next to her and took her hand in his, twinkle absent from his expressive eyes. "Don't Professor. It is too late." A wheezing chuckle escaped her lips. "Rather anticlimactic, really…" and Ginny expired, her eyes flickering out. Tears filled Dumbledore's eyes, and he gently closed the still eyes. He rose, her last words in his mind, and cried openly.
'Rather anticlimactic, really.'
