Commander Eagus looked at the new recruits to the academy with trained eyes. This was to be their first lesson in combat, and from the looks of things... this was going to be a difficult group to teach. He sighed, hoping that for once he was wrong. They'd already had several classroom lectures, and Professors Owlan and Horwell had seemed slightly annoyed when they'd been talking about the new students last night at the Lumpy Pumpkin.

"First thing's first", he said in his booming voice. "My name is Commander Eagus, and I will be your instructor in the arts of fighting. I'd like to get to know your names, so please give them now."

The students gave their names as Cawlin, Strich, Groose, Link, Zelda, and Fledge. Link seemed to be trying to keep Groose and Zelda apart. This wouldn't do- Knights have to work together, not compete. However, he'd deal with that later once he knew their individual skill level. He handed out practice swords to each student, and told them to prepare their stance.

This alone proved how much work these kids were going to need. Strich and Zelda had decent-enough stances for beginners, but Cawlin was slouched horribly, Groose just stood there nonchalantly without even bending his knees, Fledge looked like he could barely lift even a practice sword, and Link... for some reason he seemed to be having trouble figuring out in which hand he should hold the blade.

Eagus sighed and began to give each individual instructions on their stance; he skipped over Zelda and Strich at first, because the others had such abysmal posture. When he reached Link, he said "Son, why can't you pick a hand and use it?"

Link looked from Eagus to the blade, and back to Eagus. "I'm not sure how everyone else knows which hand to use... Groose is using his left, and everyone else uses their right... but you didn't tell Groose not to do that, so..."

Eagus was somewhat startled by the question; he'd never once been asked about this. No one had ever needed to ask. "Which hand do you write with?", he questioned. Link shifted the sword to his left hand, then to his right.

"Both", he replied.

A/N: Yes, Link is ambidextrous in Skyward Sword. He wields his sword right-handed, and his bow left-handed! And yes, I have practiced both archery and fencing in the past. Please, tell me what you think! I'm open to all forms of critique!
