If I could...
Every night he calls for me. I suppose I may go of my own will, for he is only calling. But I can't seem to resist. My body moves of its own will, as if drawn to an unknown beacon... I suppose it is because of my Unicorn side. But slowly, I lose control of that too.
The forests in my eyes disappear, just to leave normal eyes. I wander aimlessly through the corridors and look at pictures of my kind, only to not realize what they are.
He never loses his grip on me, however. He continues to call, continues to beckon me to him. I wander down to the basement and look at the clock.
He comes out to greet me.
He doesn't look like he usually does, but I know it's him. I can see his horns. His hair, seemingly aflame. He takes me to his caves, and sometimes we just stare at the sea.
"You can join them, you know." He says, as we watch the waves rolling in and the Unicorns riding them. "I could take you."
"What would be the point in it?" I reply. "I am no longer one of them."
He nods, and turns his head to the waves once again. "Don't you long to join them?"
I shake my head. "My place is here."
"Even if you abandon your quest?" He asks.
I look down. "I am... happy."
He stares at me for a while. "Are they?"
"I do not know."
"Will you ask them?"
I shake my head, and he returns to gazing at the mystical waves.
Some time later we speak again. "I would go with you, you know."
I smile, slightly. "If you could."
He nods. "If I could..."
