It had to rain on the way from her parent's house. Severus hadn't said much, which worried her. He was staring out the window into the darkness. She took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry about my parents, Russ." She apologized. He turned and looked at her before smiling weakly.
"It's quite alright, love." He replied, patting her hand. She smiled back and returned to watching the road.
"Maybe I was too forward." He added.
"You should slow down." He muttered. She nodded and let up on the gas. It seemed to take forever to finally get to Spinner's End. He got out of the car, pulling his coat up over his head. She rolled down her window.
"I'll call you tomorrow." She said. He shook his head.
"It would be better if I called you, I was planning on sleeping in." he answered. She nodded.
"I love you." She added. He smiled and kissed her quickly before running to the front porch. She waited until he was inside before leaving.
Suddenly her cell phone rang. It took her a moment to pick it up, holding it with her shoulder.
"Hello." She muttered.
"What did I tell you about being on the phone and driving?" Severus asked, on the other end.
"You're the one who called me." She replied. She heard him laugh softly.
"What is it? Is everything alright?" she asked.
"Yes, but I forgot to tell you to be careful." He replied. She smiled to herself.
"I will be, Russ. I promise." She chuckled, stopping at a red light.
"I'll let you go, my dear. I love you, Mione." He whispered softly. She knew he was uncomfortable saying that out loud.
"Bye, Severus." She said, before hanging up. She put the phone back in her purse. She had to talk to her parents. It made her so angry how they had treated him; he didn't deserve it. It seemed to take a shorter time to get to her apartment then it did going to Severus' house. She unlocked the door and walked in. There was one message on the answering machine. She hit the button as she walked into her bedroom.
"Hello, dear. This is your mother. I wanted to apologize about tonight we overreacted. Please, don't be angry with us. It just surprised us, is all. Call me tomorrow, please baby."
The machine beeped to signal the end of the message. She pulled one of Severus' T-shirts over her head and brushed out the wrinkles; it went almost down to her knees. She looked at the clock 1:49a.m. Everyone would asleep, except for Russ. If he were planning to sleep in, he would stay up late. She picked up the phone and dialed his number. It rang five times; he usually took forever to answer.
"Hello?" his voice said, he sounded preoccupied.
"What are you doing?" she asked, sitting on the couch.
"Nothing, reading some book." He replied. She smiled and leaned back.
"What book?"
"Inkheart, I've never read it before." He mumbled. They were both silent for a few moments.
"What are you doing?" he finally asked.
"I was thinking of asking my mother to come look at flats with us." She replied, slightly worried.
"Are sure that is a good idea?" he asked; she could hear him shuffling about. He was probably in bed, propped up against the headboard
"Well, this can be another chance for her to get to know you." She replied.
"I guess, if you think it is a good idea." He answered. She smiled. He yawned and she heard him drop the phone; it took him a few seconds to pick it up again.
"Sorry." he apologized.
"I'll let you go, you sound tired." She said. He yawned again and agreed. She hung up the phone and stared up at the ceiling. She might as well go to bed.
