Falsetto: A Harvest Moon Fanfic

Prologue: 10 Years ago

"We're under attack! The Witch Princess is attacking the island!"

The residents of Waffle Town took cover as spheres of flame rained down upon the island. The skies had become pitch black, and the Witch Princess flew overhead, laughing as she tossed fireball after fireball down. "Oh, this is fun!" she cackled. "I've never had so much fun in my life! Soon, I'll have this island's power in my hands! Today, Waffle Island; tomorrow, the world!" Her blazing blue eyes shimmered with mischief as she formed another fiery orb and prepared to launch it down. However, something caught her eye. Shifting her gaze toward the large tree in the center of the island, a wicked grin crossed her face.

Floating in front of the tree, a beautiful woman in a long, flowing dress stood. Her lavender hair was braided back, with a feather on a band tying the end of each braid tight. Butterfly wings formed wings sprouting from her back, and a bow sprouting from the back of her head. She looked up at the Witch Princess with a look of determination upon her face.

"Harvest Goddess," the Witch Princess hissed. "You are the only thing standing in my way. I'll send you to oblivion along with this pathetic excuse of an island!" With that, she flew at the Harvest Goddess, a sphere of dark energy forming in her hands. When she got close enough, she would fling the sphere at the goddess, teleporting her to who-knows-where. Not even the Witch Princess knew. But who cared? As long as the Goddess was gone, no one would stand in her way of complete domination over the world!

The Goddess had other plans. Just as the Witch Princess got into range, she formed a blast of energy and fired it at the intruder. The Witch Princess, thrown off guard, veered sharply out of the way just in time and fired a blast at the Harvest Goddess. The Goddess turned her blast to counteract the Witch's. The two blasts collided, throwing off flares and sparks of energy. As a final boost, the Goddess powered up her flare, and the Witch Princess screamed in agony as the blast consumed her. When the Goddess stopped firing and the blast dissipated, there was no sign of the evil Princess.

The Goddess smiled and breathed a sigh of relief. However, she didn't notice the dark ball of energy approaching behind her. It surrounded her quickly, and before she could do anything, she disappeared.

The Witch Princess reappeared, the wicked grin crossing her face once more. "Did she really think I was going to surrender that easily?" she mused. Then she turned to the tree, smiling wickedly. "And now, the power of this island belongs to me!" she crowed, laughing in glee. A moment later, however, she stopped laughing as she heard a noticeable rumble. "What?" she growled. "What's happening?!" She looked out over the island, where the rainbows decorated the landscape. As the Witch Princess watched, however, the rainbows shattered and fell in a sparkle of magic. At first, the Witch Princess was pleased. Who needed those colors ruining the landscape? However, her glee turned to terror as she noticed the tree behind her glowing. The rumbling became more severe, and the tree burst into a tremendous wave of energy, sending the Witch Princess screaming into the distance. Moments later, the tree's light faded, and the once-momentous tree withered.

The mayor walked out of his house after the rumbling died down. He had seen the entire attack happening from the windows of his house. A grim expression had crossed his face as he stared up where the tree used to be.

"It's impossible…" he muttered, in a state of shock. "The Mother Tree… has died…!"
