Chapter 1

The Beginning

Kaoru's POV

---

The long car passed through the streets of Tokyo quietly as it was eyed by some passers-by. It was summer in Japan but it was raining. I was following the car along with some people. I didn't bother looking at the people's faces for I had my own grief to deal with. I did have an umbrella above my head but my face was still drenched in salt tears. I tried so hard not to cry but the tears just kept flowing. My black blouse didn't show my tears. Instead, it hid them well.

My parent's were just right beside me, mourning over my brother's death too. I couldn't tell them what has been happening to me ever since they've had so many problems to deal with already. "Brother..."

It could all have been prevented if he just didn't come to school that afternoon. He wouldn't be in that coffin right now! My tears started stopping because a feeling came over me again. The same feeling I felt the day he died. The same fated day that led him to his death and me to my chasm of sorrow... It all started on the afternoon of August 5th this year---

Normal POV

---

"Wow! It's beautiful!". A young raven-haired girl stepped out of a grey Revo. Her sapphire eyes looked at the antique house with joy and admiration. She stared at the building not noticing the presence that sneaked up behind her. "Kaoru!"

"Aaahhh!"

She looked behind her only to find her brother standing with a sheepish grin on his face. "Kenshin!!" she screamed not taking her eyes away from him. They stood their laughing for awhile until their parents' called them inside. They ran towards the house continuing their childish antics.

Inside, Kaoru could've sworn she was going to fall in love with their new house. It looked beautiful outside and its interior looked wonderful as well. It resembled those old Japanese houses in Kyoto. 'I guess her appreciation for beauty applies to houses as well' Kenshin thought, looking at his awed sister.

"Kaoru, Kenshin, you better check out your rooms out now and see if everything's there" their father said. Kaoru rushed upstairs and checked out all the rooms until I came about a room decorated with pink sakura petals. It was all light mocha excluding the peony pink curtains."I guess this is my room...-". Her not-so-secret comment was heard by her brother. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" he commented while going inside the room.

"I guess it is, Kenshin!" Kaoru said with a smile. "Uhm. Now, I guess I'd have to find out if my room is just as good, that I do". The red-haired man turned around and approached the end of the hallway. 'My brother is just so weird sometimes' she thought as she giggled uncontrollably. Kenshin managed to choke out an 'oro' before he shrugged it of and just smiled at her actions.

It took them awhile to settle in. They were called down for dinner and they enjoyed a quiet supper together at the porch.
