Chapter One
Canada 2006
Blam! Thunk! Groan. Which were the usual wake-up events for Elli Stepinuick. Yes, today hasn't changed at all.
' Elli, my nemoyla don'ka please get up!' called Elli's mother from the foot of the stairs. Grumbling Elli got up and in the amazing short process managed to bang her head on the bedpost and fell onto the hard hardwood. For a moment, Elli just laid there, her multi-colored hair spilling all around her on the floor.
' Ne, umene bolyt holva, I hope it'll pass my stupidest and me. ' Muttered a banged up Elli, on the floor. She shook herself off and blindly went to the washroom (Like me she is blind without her glasses). She was still half asleep when her lord of the rings phone rang. Blindly she found her phone, and answered it; ' Phew. Hello?' she heard laughter on the other end and immediately knew it was her best friend Sana.
' It's me Elli, if I was there in person I'd say—poke! Elli! Sadly I am not! Phew!' rambled on a breathless Sana.
Elli with her nose practically touching the mirror finished putting in her contacts. Yes, some days she does go around blind.
' I know Sana! So are we meeting at the old oak tree, at say…9:00' pushed Elli.
' Nya no da! Fine.. Be that way 9:00, you're weird anyways. Who wants to be up at 9:00 on a weekend, we do enough as it is on the weekdays, with school and all!" ranted Sana.
' Sana… Sana! Listen, are you listening? Good-bye' said an expatriated Elli.
It was a gorgeous day, the sun shining and all. That day Elli was adorning a respective soccer outfit. Sana was wearing, well, her pajamas. You never could tell with Sana.
" Elli! Awesome outfit, did you decide to wear your team outfit today because you want to start a new trend?' greeted and pondered a rushing Sana, to a gorgeous Elli.
' No silly, I would not wear my jersey on a normal day, and since when do outfits include knickers?' shot back Elli.
' Um… good point..' Elli cut off Sana.
' And, why in bloody blazes are you wearing your pajamas, you in 11th grade for goodness sakes!' Sana shrugged, and accepted that.
The two linked arms, and treaded down into the grass-infested garden, or at least tried to, for Elli's flip-flops kept coming off.
Finally the two reached, they're famous hide out the sum bucket. Elli hoisted her up into the first branch and sat down. Sana began swinging her legs.
'Meep'
' Mop'
'Moop'
'Map'
'Maep'
'That's not even one Sana!' admonished Elli. See they're playing a game that they had since childhood. Sana just looked sheepish and shrugged.
' It's the month of redness!' blurted Elli.
'Phew?'
' It's Cherven! Sana! I'd just remembered!'
' oh' Sana was used to Elli's mixed speech since she was from Ukraine. The two girls sat quietly within the shade of the tree.
' Tell me about Ukraine' Sana more so ordered than begged Elli. Elli thought about that for a second than gave in and reminisced; ' In Ukraine, my Tato was an Viyskovy, my Mamo was a farmer' Sana broke in ' So?'
' Vas ya nerosumiyu' sighed a feed up Elli. Elli got into a squatting position. Sana copied her wondering what in bloody blazes she was doing. The girls then broke into a heated fight.
' I'll tell you why it is so important because…'
' I really don't care about that part, all I want to hear is about the land!'
'You have to understand the history of my people and my family to understand about the land, the people and the land are intercity related!' shouted a very feed up Elli.
Suddenly a hoot broke up the fight, which sounded through the forest, which caused both girls to fall. As they fell they fell not onto the ground but into pitch-blackness.
