"Doctor, we can't!" River reached for her husband's arm, sliding her hand down to his wrist. He tried to jerk away but she tightened her hold on him.

"But.. what she said.. we can take the T.A.R.D.I.S. to New Jersey and then we can get a cab and.. and go to New York and then we can bring them back.." The Doctor's voice broke as he held back more tears after his break down in the cemetery.

"Sweetie.. You read the tombstone.. It's a fixed point.. We can't bring them back.." River intertwined their fingers and started to pull him to her until he ripped his hand from her's and yelled, "THEN WE'LL JUST SEE THEM! WE'LL JUST SEE AMY AND WE'LL JUST SEE RORY! JUST ONE MORE TIME! Just one more time… once.. please…."

She pulled her husband into a tight, sobbing hug, while he continued to mumble into her should, "..just once more.. I didn't get a proper goodbye… please, River!… please.." and pull on her dress like a child that had been ripped from his best friend, in a terrible and brutal way. Which, in reality, that is what it was.

They stood like that for some time. Could've been minutes. Could've been hours, maybe even days. River just ran her fingers through his hair and kissed his face, forehead, cheeks, eyes, nose, lips, chin, everywhere, until he finally pulled himself together and they were off.

Later that day he found her, sitting on the edge of a bed in a random bedroom that she had found, crying, and he did the same for her when she realized that she would never see her parents again.

He held her and they made love. It was soft, and slow, and sweet, and they both cried. There were whispered I love you's and groaned HARDER's. There were soft caresses and tight grips. There were gentle kisses and sharp teeth.

And then it was over. And River went back to prison and the Doctor went back to travelling.
