Title: between best friends.
Summary: And neither one pulls away, or stops it. Serena\Blair.
Authors Note: I wrote this a while ago and found it in my drafts. I found quite a lot in my drafts tbh.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
And it's innocent at first.
Serena's drunk and tired.
And Blair, she's fed up of, of everything.
Nate. Her family. Her 'friends'. Even Yale.
The pressure to be perfect is becoming harsher.
She's retired from the sliding a finger down her throat stage.
She's over that.
(But she'll never be over that; it'll always, always haunt her.)
And Serena is always wanting to let loose.
To try something new.
And she's tired, she's tired of everything.
Her stupid mother. Gossip Girl. The life she lives.
It's too hard, this is why she does it, escapes.
And so while fumbling around at some bathroom at a bar Serena's lips press against Blair's.
And neither one pulls away, or stops it.
They don't want it.
They need it.
Because best friends kiss and this kiss tells them that everything is going to be alright.
It tells them to stay calm.
Because to get the rainbow you need the rain.
Blair pulls away first, eyes full of tears as she holds onto Serena's body.
She crushes her with the hug.
It's a hug that leaves you breathless, gasping for air and Serena she doesn't mind as she strokes Blair's hair and tells her everything's going to be okay.
Even if it's not.
A few white lies never hurt anybody.
(But Blair needs this. She needs to know fairytales can still work out and that Nate is still her prince and that her family is going to be alright even though things seem strained and that she is perfect, she doesn't need to try and be something she already is. She needs to know that she'll get into Yale in a few years time and Kati and Is and the other minions won't turn away from her.)
"It's okay, B."
"No it's not, S."
And Serena doesn't argue, doesn't fight back.
You don't win battles with Waldorf's.
(And Serena needs this. She needs to be able to comfort others, needs to be the one doing the sweet talking and the hugging and the 'it's alright.' because she can't always be on the receiving end. She needs to feel important, like she's worth something, like she isn't just another girl who gets wasted every night because she's screwed up. She needs to know that she matters to somebody.)
"I love you."
"I love you more."
And the girls giggle, pulling away from each other, Blair wiping pathetically at her eyes.
And Serena slaps her arm playfully.
And over the years they share more kisses, when needed, when they feel hurt, when they need to comfort someone or when, when everything falls apart and they only have each other because they know that they're infinite. They're forever, they're always.
