"Mom?" the young chid's voice rang through the quiet house. "Mom, Dad, I'm back from Ino's!"

Silence was her answer.

"That's strange." the girl mused. "Mom and Dad always answer when I yell. And I know they're home, 'cause their cars in the garage."

The child walked upstairs. Her room, her brothers room, and her parents room were all empty. So back downstairs she went.

The kitchen, living room, dining room, and game room were also empty.

"They must be in the basement, then." she decided happily.

She opened the door that led to the rickety stairs led into her basement. As soon as she did, she began to hear a noise.

A baby crying.

"Kaito!" cried the girl, running down the stairs to get to her crying brother. She flipped the switch at the bottom of the stairs.

What she saw would haunt her for life.

Her fathers corpse lay at the feet of a red-eyed man who seemed to be biting the neck of her mother.

"S-sakura!" her mother gasped. "T-take Kaito a-and run!"

Those were her mothers final words.

"Listen to your mother, child." said the man tauntingly. "I have no use for you and the baby, now. But I'll return when your nice and..." his eyes raked hungrily over her small body. "Ripe."

And with that the man disappeared.

Sakura rushed forwards and grabbed her crying brother from the playpen. As soon as he was settled in her arms, he was silent, happily chewing on his fingers.

"What are we gonna do, buddy?" she asked him, silent tears falling down her face.

The boy cooed softly, before falling asleep.
