Faith gives substance to our hopes,
and makes us certain of realities we do not see.
By faith we perceive that the universe
was fashioned by the word of God,
so that the visible came forth from the invisible. Hebrews 11:1,3 (NEB)
Faith
by Elenath Ambrose
There were only two sides to this game. The dark side and the light side. Everyone agreed that today, on this October morning, that it would all end here in the field outside of Hogwarts. We would fight for our freedom and for the future. On one side, Voldermort stood; his very presence chilling the air, with his army of death eaters behind him. On the other side, we stood. Dumbledore's army, with our general in front. The twinkle in his eyes had long since gone, now replaced with ice blue seriousness. Thousands of people would die today, for the greater good, and we all knew that. Harry and Ron stood on one side of me; their wands raised shivering in the cold.
" You guys ok?" I questioned quietly. They looked over and smiled at my calm voice. I wasn't really calm. I was afraid, so afraid that today we would lose. That we would die.
" Hermione?" A small voice said behind me. I turned and saw Dennis Creevey; he was shaking and looked frightened to death. Oh God, he was so young, only 15 years old.
" It's going to be all right." I whispered back, for it was all I could say, I couldn't assure him that he would live through the day, I couldn't assure him that we would see Hogwarts or our friends again. Hell, I couldn't assure anything right now.
There was a motion, which caught all of our attentions. The battle was about to begin. Dumbledore stepped forward and so did the dark lord. They raised they're arms signaling and we ran. Our screams were not of terror anymore, they were of astounding bravery. I saw Draco Malfoy running along my side, holding his wand and yelling out curses. The fight was bloody and painful. Even Neville Longbottom got out a couple curses, but he fell not to long after by some death eater's spell. He was a good man.
" Potter."
I saw Harry, with his wand ready. Voldermort stood as if he was 50 ft tall. The size of his ego must have tripled that. I wasn't able to watch the final battle between the two because I had my own problems, Several Deatheaters who knew me and my bloodline, ganged up. I killed three. Lucius Malfoy being one of them. I hoped Draco would forgive me in time. I was not strong enough and died fighting. I did not pass over immediately, but stayed with the battle. Ron saw my body. He was in terrible pain, but this pushed him over the edge. His determination kicked and he was killing every evil doer in sight. I was damn proud.
Everything lasted approximately 4 hours and 37 seconds. When you're dead, things like that are very easy to notice. A select few were left standing, my dear Ron being one of them. Not everyone was dead though, I might want to clarify. They were either hurt or tending to the hurt. We won the war. It was over. Harry our savior had killed Lord Voldermort with the help his mother gave him. Knowing that we won helped me pass over.

" And so we say good bye to those who were lost, They showed us all that faith, love, and determination in what you believe can take you to places unimaginable. It is with them, that has brought us so far in life. It is them that without , we could not have the freedom we have today. Let us bow our heads and remember these people."
On a plaque read the names of those who died. Albus Dumbledore, Mirvina Mcgonagall, Remus Lupin, Fred Weasley, William Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Terry boot, Blaise Zabini , Susan Bones, and so many more.
Every year, the new headmaster, takes a moment of silence and bows his head in the memory of that day.
