Author's Note: This was actually written about the book, not the movie, but hey, this seems to be the available category for it. :) It's a response to a poetry challenge. Also, Marcus and Esca belong to Sutcliffe in all her glory, and Hadrian's Wall belongs to history.

Ette Iter!

(behold the journey)

My friend and I must pass you by,

You mighty wall, frowning and tall

And all of stone. Barred off alone

Are lands beyond you, less than fond

Of empire-bound countries around

The sky, the sea, the rocky bend

Which you, old guard, alone defend.

My former men and the command

Would call me, for this journey, mad.

But shining gold I will behold.

I'll slay all doubt of my father's end.

We'll find the truth, I and my friend;

I'll set my face and keep my word,

Bring home his legion's noble bird.
