Darkness

People turn on lights so that they can see. In the void of darkness, we feel insecure; we don't trust our sense of touch enough to allow us to maneuver freely in the darkness. In short, we feel blind. However, there are certain things, though, that you can only see in the dark. These things are not just limited to stars and flashes of lightening, but in the darkness, you'll learn things that you could never learn in the light – and that, I consider, is seeing in its own way.

Detective Beckett sat crossed legged in the corner of the storage closet. Her fingers tapping lightly on the dead battery of the flashlight in her hands. She was incredibly agitated. She was, after all, trapped in a storage closet in the dead of night with a novelist who didn't understand the concept of 'peace and quiet.'

She rolled her eyes up to the ceiling, and she could feel him looking at her. "What?" She demanded.

"Nothing." He replied.

"Why are you staring at me?"

"I'm not staring."

"Yes, yes you are." She argued.

"How can you tell, I can't even see my fingers!" She didn't reply, but she knew that he was still staring.

"Castle, stop staring!" She said, gritting her teeth. She could almost see him smiling.

"Want to know why I'm staring?" He asked her, and she could see him raise an eyebrow to the ceiling.

"Is it because I'm tall?" She mimicked the action she imagined him performing at the moment.

"No." He replied. "It's because you're incredibly talented and beautiful." She remained silent. "You're not even beautiful." He continued, and she frowned. "You're not even stunning, I just can't think of the world for 'you'" He said, and she could hear the frustration in his voice.

"Why are you telling me this?" She asked, clicking her tongue and smiling.

"Because it's dark and you can't see me and if I remain incredibly silent in a second, you won't be able kick me in my groin, or shoot me, or hit me, or break my neck."

"Castle." She said a second later. She, in return, got no response. "Castle." She tried again, and it was still silent. It's possible that she wouldn't have kicked his balls.
