I never imagined this life
She made her bed, now she slept in it, but it was cold and empty. Stripped bare of who and what she is until that night, the night of the dance.
She had given up on love, because it has given up on her. She could no longer fight. It was gone out of her. She chose to forget.
She wanted to live in the world of her choosing, free from feeling, free from pain, so she hid her face from the world around her.
To everyone, she was doing quite well in spite of everything. She has always been a strong person.
How could she be so calm when there have been so many storms.
She shut herself down and did her job. She responded to the world around her with levity that never reached her eyes never mind her heart.
Her true self, she locked away, far from prying eyes.
In one unguarded moment, his eyes bore into her soul, and it open his eyes.
Open to the rawness and intensity of her.
She felt his glance and tried to cover her tracks by slamming the door to her soul, but it was too late. In that one moment, he had seen enough.
One glance told him everything he needed to know.
She did what she had learned to do best, and that is, make light of the moment and hurried away.
Without thinking, he hurried after her and wanted to know if she would like to go dancing
It was spur of the moment, but she said yes, and it was on.
She checked herself in the mirror to make sure everything was in place including her heart. Everything neatly tucked away where they belonged.
He met her at the hangar, and observed how meticulous she was dressed; even, her smile was perfectly placed.
Everything in its right place.
Ready?
She responded, "yes". "I am looking forward to this. It's been awhile since I have gone dancing".
He nodded and they took their place on the shuttle.
The music played, and he listened. They lightly joked as they danced around each other.
It was the last dance of the evening.
He went to the band and he made his request.
He gently took her hands and led her on the floor.
The music was tantalizing.
The first few strings led them into a gently swaying motion that slowly builds into a hypnotic tempo that was wild and savage.
As the music played, it crept into her soul and free what she had so carefully locked away.
He watched her as the music took control.
It freed her and he made his move.
She forgot herself and he followed her.
It was like, divine hands reached down and said, "It is your time"
It was perfect.
I observed it all.
As the tempo increased and the drums began their rhythmic beat, she gave her body over to its caress, and she danced.
She danced like her life depended on it, and maybe it did.
Yes, she danced.
He ran his fingertips gently over her back as she closed her eyes and moved to the rhythm, the rhytm of the drums.
His body moving in sync with her.
He held her close and allowed his soul to fly with her.
When he kissed her, she responded.
He looked into her eyes and he saw into soul, and knew he would never, ever, let her go.
Now, he could not imagine a life without her.
So, he set out to prove his love was all she needed.
After the dance, she could no longer hide.
Her soul an open book for him to read.
So, he teased her with dancing.
And Fate said "well done"
Twenty years later, as he asked her to dance, he remembered the first time their soul flew together.
So, he allowed the music to take control.
