I don't own Naruto this story is made purely through the intention of enjoyment.
When he smiled, it was always innocent.
A bright, happy grin that seemed to make everything better; problems more bearable.
As he grew older, his smiles didn't change, but if you looked closely you could've caught a glimpse of his pain flickering in his baby blue eyes.
Every time I looked at him, he seemed more wary. It was like he had suddenly started to grow older at an alarming fast rate. His shoulders would sag as he walked and his eyes drooped, creating a lazy-like aura around him.
Each day, more bags could be seen under his eyes; a sure sign of lack of sleep.
Yet, still, he smiled. And when he did my worries escaped me.
It was raining, I remember, when I saw him outside. Rain poured down and still, he stood like a statue overlooking the village of Konoha.
I quickly grabbed my umbrella, slipped on a pair of sturdy boots and a large jacket then I headed outside.
When I offered him the umbrella, he just smiled and shook his head "no". I persisted.
He could catch a cold, or pnemonia……..
As these thoughts ran through my head, I failed to notice his eyes.
They no longer shined and neither did his smile. When I looked, his eyes seemed dead, blank and his smile was empty.
Yet he seemed at peace, he seemed relaxed, calm. As if he was waiting for death to come and steal him away.
He ushered me away and claimed that I was sure to be busy and shouldn't be wasting time on him.
I didn't see him for about a week. I had asked around, but either no one knew or they just didn't care. Bastards.
The next time I saw him, he was standing on my doorstep, soaking wet and dripping blood, sweat and mud.
He looked at me.
He smiled I ran into his arms and hugged him tight.
My voice was muffled as I repeatedly scolded him for making me worry so much.
His response was to just smile and hug me even tighter than before.
A year went by and still, the same routine.
He would go on missions; I would worry and vice-versa.
We became closer and before we knew it, we were in love.
Now here I am, in the dark. Naruto hasn't come back yet. I'm worried. I glance at the clock then stare at the door once again.
An hour late.
Where could he be?
He wasn't dead, was he?
I started to panic.
"shhhhhhhhhhh…………."
His voice soothed me, put away all my fears.
He pulled me into a tight hug.
"I'm sorry for being so late."
"hmph!"
"one last thing."
"What now?"
"will you marry me?"
My eyes widened in shock as I was presented with a beautiful silver engagement ring.
"………yes……."
I buried my head into his shoulder and smiled.
He pulled me closer to himself and hugged me tighter.
What a cuddly person.
"I love you Tenten."
"I love you too, Naruto"
