BREIF PLOT EXPLANATION:

Kara has a younger sister, Hope, who is also from Krypton

Hope is around 13/14 years old.

They've been captured by a Government Lab (working against the DEO) for experiments/ containment. CADMUS doesn't exist.

This one-shot takes place in the Lab they are being kept in.

This is mostly from Kara's POV, with some omnipresent narrating and a bit of Hope.

Enjoy and please do review!

As Kara drifted back into consciousness, all she could feel was cold, hard metal beneath her back. The smell of artificial air tickled her nose as it spurted through the oxygen tube attached to her nose by sticky tape on her cheekbones. As she became more aware of her surroundings, with her eyes still closed, she felt her wrists, ankles and torso being held in place, by what felt like leather buckles and she could hear the heart monitor beeping steadily… well steadily for her at least. For a second, she lay still, her eyes closed, not fully awake - she was probably still sedated… but then… she heard the scream.

Her eyes burst open, as an unfamiliar room blurred into focus. White. Metal. Flashing lights. Wires. Tubes. Beeps. A scream. The room was clean white and silver. Medical tools, wires and various other appliances were scattered across everywhere.

Kara crained her head up and searched for the scream.
She was wearing a white hospital gown, with a blue trim neckline. Her wrists, ankles and torso were strapped down to the table she was laying on. Over her body, she felt small, sticky pads stuck around, monitoring one thing or the other. She felt various tubes, with cold liquid flowing through them into her blood. The air was cool, and she shivered in her thin covering; no one else was in the room.

As she turned her head to the left, that's where she found the scream.

The wall was made of glass, through there was another room, with a large, clear containment tube and inside there… was Hope lying crumpled on the floor. The room was full of scientists, making notes, pressing buttons that brought more pain to Hope as her little body convulsed violently.

Kara struggled under her restraints, breathing heavily and quickly ,trying to use her powers to free herself from the table, but… they weren't working..? She was utterly powerless and she had no idea why. There wasn't time to work this out now. Right now, she needed to save Hope.

She tried to remember what Alex had taught her, when training without her powers … if only she'd payed more attention. She just manages to catch her fingertip under the buckle. Slowly, she picks open the buckle and it pings open. Kara stretches her hand and moves on the her torso, then to her other hand. Once free, she sits up. Looking down at her body, she rips off all the wires, tubes and pads and unbuckles the restraints holding her ankles in place. She slips off the table and runs to the door… automatically it slides open into the room where Hope was being kept.

Kara sprints towards Hope as a group of Security approach her and hold her back by the arms. She struggles in their grip, but without her powers, she's vulnerable.

"HOPE!" Kara screams. The little girl in the containment tube sits up and registers what's happening. Within seconds she's pounding against the glass for Kara. Kara could see the tears in her eyes as she cried within the tube.

"Kara? Kara help! KARA!" Hope yelled as they brought Kara to her knees, the guards arms gripping her own arms strongly. The security guard attacked Kara with a taser on her stomach. Electricity flowed through her, like fire soaring through her veins. She tried to stifle her screams - to reassure Hope - but the pain was too intense and she collapsed screaming to the ground, her body arching in agony.

"NO! KARA! Please… stop, stop it!" Hope was crying heavily, her face dampened with tears.

Kara lay weak and in pain in the ground she looked up at Hope, her face petrified, scared - she looked like a lost child.

"I…I'm.. okay Hope, shhh… it…it's fine." Mumbled Kara, this was inaudible to everyone else, but Hope still had full use of her powers (for experimental purposes only) and heard Kara's message.

As Kara tried to recover, they hit her again with the taser, but this time, it knocked her out completely, and she lay limp on the white floor. She felt the guards drag her out, and back to her own room maybe, and thought she heard Hope pleading, talking, crying… but then everything went quiet and still.

Kryptonite. Before Kara could fully become conscious, she could feel the stomach churning pain of Green K in the room. The pain. Burning her from the inside out.

Slowly she opened her eyes to reveal a rectangular shaped room, with a large, silver panel on the front wall.

In Kara's forehand, was an IV pumping Liquid K into her blood stream, streaks of green appeared over her body, she felt weak and was shaking.

To her right, was Hope, in a blue gown and white trim, hooked up to kryptonite as well - but she was far smaller than Kara, her body wouldn't hold up as long. The unconscious child lay still, her breath laboured and shallow.

Kara removed her own IV carefully and shuffled over to Hope, unable to stand due to the Green K.

"H..Hope. Hope?" Kara said, she removed Hope's IV and picked her up into her lap. Hope's face was pale, cracked with green. Her body cold, yet tinged with sweat, shaking, at least she was still breathing. Kara stroked her hair as her eyes fluttered open, but she was still only half-conscious.

"K..ara? Where… are we? What's happening?" Whimpered Hope. Her eyes, were still only half open, the pain in her face was evident, Kryptonite must have a longer affect on kids, Kara could almost feel the agony that Hope was in. It was one thing to take Kara herself, she could deal with the pain, but taking Hope and reducing her down to this state, was another. She wasn't going to let Hope get hurt anymore.

"Shhh, now. You're okay. I don't know, but, Hope, I promise I won't let anything happen to you." Kara moves closer to Hope and whispers in her ear.

"The DEO will find us, and Alex and her squad will come rescue us. We'll be home safe in no time." she smiled at her baby sister.

Kara was trying to be positive, optimistic for Hope, but the truth was, she didn't know if they'd make it out. Who were these people and where the hell were they?

Kara wrapped Hope in her arms and comforted the little girl. She'd never seen Hope so small, so inferior. She was usually seen as mature for her age, a 14-year-old who acted much more like a 17-year-old, but now, Hope lay sniffling, crying and scared in Kara's arms, just like on Krypton, when she was little and the storms due to the destruction of krypton kept everyone up, Hope would climb into Kara's bed and hide in her bedsheets.

Kara stroked Hope's hair, and held her protectively, when out of nowhere, the silver panel on the wall, turned to glass, revealing what looked like a control room, and a group of scientists in lab coats, with a trio of Military personnel.

"Who the hell are you? What do you want?" Yelled Kara, tightening her grasp on Hope protectively. The group looked at her curiously.

"We've been watching you for a while now… saving people and all that other crap. Your abilities are incredible, and where else am I supposed to get some real Kryptonian DNA? Aliens are a plague, that need to be wiped out, but, Kryptonians are far to close to humans to be exterminated like the rest of them…we don't know much about them…. now's our chance." said the Superior looking Military General, his eyes were thirsty with power.

"But…why take Hope as well? Couldn't you have just taken..me? Why hurt us both? Hope's can't handle as much pain… she's.. a child. Please, just have me, I'm not letting anyone die or get hurt because of me." she looked down at Hope, who was still shaking, but a bit less pale now.

"This is getting awkwardly emotional… take the child and commence the next test." ordered the General.

Kara shielded Hope from the scientists making their way over to the corner, where they were huddled.

"I'll never let you take her." Growled Kara.

"We'll see about that."

The scientists yanked Hope from Kara's grasp, Hope tried to cling on to Kara's neck, but they tasered Hope in the stomach, causing her to scream in pain.

"NO! Stop! Stop hurting her please! Take me instead… please! STOP! HOPE!" Kara wailed, utterly distraught. The dragged Hope away from Kara, who was also being restrained by security personel. Both of them kicked, screamed and struggled as they were separated.

"Kara! Ka..ra! Please, don't let them take… me… .." Hope wailed.

Hope was too weak to fight properly, she kicked around, screamed for Kara, but one last taser in the neck rendered her unconscious.. they dragged her by the arms out of the room.

"HOPE!"

Kara was left in the corner, crying, weak, shaking. Rao knows where they were taking Hope, she was already in bad shape. She'll make it, she'll have to, she was strong, stronger than anyone Kara knew, but right now Hope needed her Big Sister, right now, Kara needed to save her little sister.

As Hope regained consciousness, all she could remember was the White room and Kara. Kara. Kara. Where was Kara? They'd been huddled in the corner, she'd been held in Kara's strong arms, reassured by her warmth, her smile - even though she too was in agonising pain. Then, those … people came and took her away. Kara's plea. The taser.

As Hope swam into full consciousness she noticed that she was suspended in mid air, her hands chained up above her, leaving her hanging by her arms.

The room was filled with kryptonite emitters, every corner, every alcove of this otherwise white and metal room was seeping with green. It churned Hope's stomach, burnt her lungs. In front of her, was a chair, its arm rests had restraints attached to them, she was too exhausted to process the use for this. The military trio entered the room.

"Hope? That's what they call you. Ironic… don't you think? You and your sister are the last things to bring 'Hope' to this Earth, you destroy it, you mess with it… I can barely stand to look at you." Spat the General. "But not time for hysterics. I want to try something. I hear that Kryptonite affects your abilities, one of which being to heal. I want to witness this phenomenon myself.." he signalled to one of his henchmen, who handed him a sharp, large knife. He approached Hope, who was struggling in her restraints, the Kryptonite making it harder, and harder to move.

"I think…" he examined the weapon "We'll let the other alien watch next time… this is just a warm up.." he smiled, before placing the knife on Hope's arm and searing it slowly, deeply and painfully. Hope screamed, her scream filled the room and bounced off the walls, blood trickled down her arms and dripped on to the perfectly white floor. He did the same to the other arm, Hope voiced another blood curdling scream, another and another as he repeated this down her arms. By the end of it, Hope was barely conscious, and a pool of her scarlet blood lay at her feet , her arms were covered in seeping scars.

"Bring the other one in." Ordered a voice in the room. Hope shifted what was left of her vision in the direction of the door, where Kara was being dragged in and towards the chair, at the sight of Hope, Kara choked up with tears.

"Oh.. my god…. oh my god…." she breathed. "What did you do to her?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?"

Kara was yelling now as they forced her in the chair and tied her in. They placed two small discs on the side of her temples leading to an unknown destination.

"The Kryptonite obviously works then… as you can see by Hope's current condition, yet, I ponder, what would it do… if we directly injected it into a wound…?" said the General, he produced a syringe, filled with toxic Green K. "And what would poor Big sissy do if I tried this theory on Hope? Why don't we find out!"

Kara struggled violently in the chair, screaming at the General, she knew the pain Hope would go through… and she wasn't sure if she'd make it. As Kara screamed, kicked and struggled some more the General nodded to one of the scientists, who proceeded to press a button. Immediately Kara's body arched in pain. Electricity flowed through her, burning her veins, tightening her chest, she couldn't do anything but scream as it continued. The pain seemed to last a lifetime, but when it finally stopped, Kara's head dropped limp to her chest, her eyes dropping closed, her body covered in sweat.

During this, Hope still wasn't fully aware of what was going on, she was loosing more blood by the minute, but she could hear Kara's screams muffled and begged for them to stop.

"K..kara…pppleaseee…. ssttop hurting… her." Was all Hope managed to choke out.

"Now that a few things have been straightened out… let's begin."

A guard approached Kara from behind and pulled her hair upwards sharply, jolting her neck upwards, forcing her to watch Hope.

The General approached Hope with the needle, examining her wounds, before plunging it deep into the largest cut.

Kara was sure that Hope's scream would haunt her for a very long time. Hope's whole body tensed and cringed. The scream filled the air, filled the room, green streaks cracked the girls body as she seized trying to reject the liquid. She cried, she struggled, before passing out from the excruiating pain.

Kara watched, her eyes wide, unable to move. Hope hung limp from the ceiling, still dangerously green, her breathing scarce. Kara's trance like state was broken by someone entering the room.

"Sir? Sir, DEO backup detected 5 minutes from our current location." Announced the woman. She subsequently walked out again.

"Think that your little friends will save you… you'll both be dead before they get here…" laughed the General, he released Hope, but let her fall to the floor, her ribs making an awful crunching sound as she hit the floor. The two other soldiers approached Kara and released her too, throwing her next to Hope.

"Release the gas and evacuate!" shouted the General. Everyone left the room and Kara scrambled over to Hope, and took her into her arms. As Kara checked over Hope, her wounds seeping with fresh blood and Liquid kryptonite, Kara heard the hissing of gas being released into the room….they didn't have much time. Kara shuffled to the side of the wall and leant against it weakly.

"Hope…please." the room was turning a faint green colour and Kara sicker every second.

"ALPHA SQUAD LEFT, BETA RIGHT, DELTA WITH ME. NOW."

It was Alex's voice.

"A..lexx! Alex!' Kara yelled with her last remaining strength… unsure to wether it would be enough. She held onto Hope tightly as Kara herself began to loose consciousness.

Through muffled hearing Kara heard the banging of the steel, locked door being blown in… then the sound of running footsteps.

"Oh my god… Kara, Hope….I NEED A MED EVAC NOW. HURRY UP." Commanded Alex as she ran over to the two weak Kryptonians.

"Alex…" Kara coughed as her older sister approached to comfort her.

"It's okay, it's okay. I'm here now." Said Alex as she looked down at Hope. "Jesus…." She hugged Kara as the MedTeam approached them, Kara subsequently lost consciousness.
