Sam stared at the directions on the cookbook. Her parents had trusted her with it when they left for meetings, and she was going to use it to the best of her abilities. Making a cake was one of those, especially if it was for your best friend. It was not as easy as TV made it out to be. Her Cake had to be PERFECT… Otherwise he'd never like it… She didn't want to think about it, though. "Okay, now just put it in the oven…" The heroine pushed the cake batter into the oven, and set the bake time. She sat on her couch, waiting…

Oh Chris… you're so amazing…. Sam thought. She had been friends with him since kinder, and didn't expect to stop anytime soon. RING! The doorbell rang, and she went to go answer it. To her surprise, it was Chris! "Hey Sam!" The hero said cheerfully. After sitting on the couch with him for five seconds, Sam fell into space when she saw him. Everything melted away, and his sky-blue eyes burned a hole in her gold ones. "Uh... N-Nothing…. I'm fine." Even she didn't believe that.

"So…. What are you up to?"

"Nothing…. Just making a cake."

"Really? For who?"

"My friend…."

Sam hated lying, notably to Chris, but she had no other choice. "I see…. Well, why don't I help? We'll get done in no time!" He winked at her, something that would make any other girl melt into her socks. Sam was no exception. She looked at her hero, trying to find words. "Well, it's kind of in the oven already, but we could make something else!" Chris saw the worry in her eyes, and pulled her into a soft hug. Sam felt a million points of light soothe her worry, and she hugged back. The two stood there for a while, each taking in the other's emotions. Chris felt the same way she did but he had a world to watch over, and didn't have much time to tell her.

The cake was already frosted and cooling on the counter, as Sam and Chris sat on the couch, looking at anything but each other. They even tried to think of other things than each other, such as Cookies, Bunnies, Dr. Eggman, Chaos Emeralds, and Movies. Sam got up without a word and went to her room, silent. Chris followed her, and stood at her door frame looking at her. They stared at each other for three seconds then Sam ran into Chris's arms. She buried her head in his chest, sobbing silently. Chris held her and kissed her head. "I know Sam… I love you too…." She looked back at him with widened eyes. "You… what?" She got her answer when he placed his soft lips on hers. She closed her eyes and kissed back, enjoying the rush of wind that blew past her.

They stood like that for a minute, before he let go. "Sam… I have to go…." She nodded and walked to the door…. He winked at her, kissed her cheek, and sped off, a blue streak in the night. As she watched him run, a song she had wrote for him long ago popped back into her head.

They call me Sonic
cause I am faster than sound I keep on jumping around
Blue Hero Sonic
with incredible speed I'm moving my feet…

They Call me Sonic…

I love you… and always will……

Chris landed softly on his porch, tired from his latest mission. There, sitting on the doorstep, was a yellow and blue frosted cake….
