I sighed, looking at the sky above me; it was a sharp contrast from the red of the battlefield. A spear was embedded heavily in my stomach, I knew I was going die and the thought was oddly calming. My vision was unclouded, if anything, better than average. I smiled to myself, looking down at my boomerang, I would die doing what I loved, being a warrior.

Several pairs of running feet made me turn my head and I saw my sister and my brother-in-law running towards me. My sister was crying heavily.

"Oh Katara…" I said faintly, reaching my hand up to her. She knelt and looked at me, grasping my hand tightly.

"You're gonna survive Sokka! Don't think you're going to die, you're not!" She said firmly, reaching for her water skin.

"No," I stopped her. "It's my time, it feels right." I murmured. "Please don't cry though, I hate seeing you cry." Katara bit her lip hard and buried her face in her husband's chest.

"We will miss you Sokka." Zuko said, wrapping his arms comfortingly around my sister. He was accustomed to death and knew that causing a big fuss wouldn't help me pass on any easier. I still saw a lone tear fall down his cheek though.

"I want you to take care of her," I said gently, motioning to Katara. He nodded. I saw two figures coming down from the sky and I watched Aang and Toph touch down from the airbender's glider.

"Sokka!" Toph said, shocked. Her blind eyes couldn't see the spear but she could feel every shudder my weakening body gave. She dropped to her knees and looked at me, eyes filled with pain.

"What happened! Somebody heal him!" Aang demanded. Katara shook her head, looking at the Avatar.

"He wants to die, he says it feels right, like it's his time." She said, grasping Zuko's hand.

"No, he's delusional. Katara, don't let your brother die because he says he wants to." Aang said, anger making his cheeks flush a pink color, making the blood on his face match.

"No Aang, l can feel it, I see the spirits now." I whispered, a small stream of blood coming out of my mouth. I gazed lovingly at my family, from Aang, my brother, to Toph, the beautiful young woman she was, Katara, my strong sister, Zuko, my fearless comrade-in-arms.

I opened my mouth to say something more but a hand closed down on my mouth, it was my mother. No one else could see her, and she smiled at me.

"Come on Sokka, I've been waiting for you my love." She whispered. I found myself suddenly able to stand. I took her hand and followed her, picking my way through the fallen soldiers. I looked back to see my body, laying there with my boomerang clutched in my hands still. My friends and family were weeping and I let go of my mother's hand and walked back to them.

"Don't cry! I'm here! I'm well!" I said to them, but none turned. I was confused until my mother came back and put her hand on my shoulder.

"They cannot hear you Sokka, we're going where they cannot come." She whispered. I nodded and she told me to follow, and I followed.
