He took a deep breath and glanced into the divider. He saw that The Father's fingers were at his temple as if he were bored.
"I have one more thing to confess, Father."
"Yes, son?"
Shawn stumbled with his words before sighing in frustration. "It's hard to explain."
"I find starting at the beginning makes things easier."
The psychic smirked slightly and nodded. "The beginning. It's a long story." He warned.
"I have no where else to go."
Shawn thought he detected some frustration in the Father's voice, but ignored it.
"A few days after I started working at the SBPD, a woman transferred in. Her name is Juliet O'Hara. I was...attracted to her, almost immediately, but never asked her out." He chuckled darkly. "Do you know why I never asked her out?"
The Father shook his head. "Why?"
"I'm intimidated by her. She's so damn, pardon me, powerful. She's smart, she's sexy, she's sweet." He put his head in his hands.
"Then ask her out."
Shawn looked up. "I can't."
"Why not?" The Father was confused now.
"I'm...I'm dating someone else."
"Ahhhh."
Shawn nodded. "Now you see my problem." He sighed. "Her name is Abigail. Abigail Lytar." He ran a hand through his hair. "I've known her since high school. She's smart. I suppose you have to be to be a teacher. And she's beautiful. And she's sexy." She sighed in frustration. "I don't know what to do. I think I'm in love with two women." The silence from the booth next to him made him squint through the divider. "Father?" He heard a sigh before the Father spoke.
"Shawn, have you ever heard the saying 'the heart wants what it wants'?"
"I think I've heard that before." He grumbled.
The Father nodded. "In your case, you're heart appears to want both."
"And what am I supposed to do about that?" He cried in despair. "Polygamy is a no-no here in Santa Barbara. It's alright in Utah though, apparently."
The Father was silent for a moment and Shawn thought he'd never hear an answer. Finally, he heard something that he'd never wished to hear. "Perhaps the reason you're in love with two women is because you haven't yet met 'the one'."
He sat there in shock. He had never considered that before. He never wanted to consider that before. He knew deep in his heart that the Father was wrong. He knew that he was in love. He knew he loved her.
"Thank you, Father. This actually helped." He said with a grin.
The Father chuckled. "Well don't sound so surprised, Son."
Shawn pushed the door open and ran into the church.
"Try not to make it 15 years until your next confession!" The Father called after him as he ran out the door.
