A/N: The lines, "Must you go/Can't you stay" popped into my head today and refused to leave. So, from such a simple begining, I created this poem. I am just finishing up Inkdeath, so I imagine I got my inspiration from there. I started thinking about how Roxane must've felt all those times that Dustfinger would leave her to wander about the world. The fact that they love each other is certainly evident throughout the trilogy, but have they ever spoken about it? Have they ever told each other, "I love you"? A picture sprang into my mind's eye of Roxane holding Dustfinger's lifeless body and regretting the fact that she never told him how much she loved him. With that in mind, I wrote the rest of this poem, thinking of all the times she'd watched him walking away down the road towards his next adventure, without ever hearing her say those wonderful words.
Must you go?
Can't you stay?
Each time you leave,
I think you'll fade away
and leave me alone.
Oh, I hope, I pray
to see you again
someday.
My joy, my light, my life,
I wish you wouldn't stray
so far away from me
for I never got to say,
"I love you."
And as dawn begins this day,
you start out on your way.
"I love you," comes the whisper
which fades upon the morning rays.
