Blaise Corso was many things. A fighter. A lover. A bitch. A slut. A detective, and a goddamn good one with that. She could put a bullet through a gangbanger's forehead without blinking, or cuff a suspect with her eyes closed. Everyone who worked with and around her knew these things about her. She was the type of person you'd hope would be impressed by your accomplishments, even though she probably wouldn't be. The type of person you feared out of respect. She could admit when she was wrong (sometimes), and accept an apology. Blaise Corso was many things. But she was not modest.

. . .

"I'm telling you Bailes, I got him with one shot. No, I'm serious! One shot between the eyes and bang, drops like an anchor." Blaise Corso put her feet up on her desk and leaned back in her chair, deep into a phone conversation with her twin sister, Bailey Corso. Bailey was a detective across the country for the NYPD, and she wasn't nearly as cool of a cop as Blaise was. She absolutely adored hearing Blaise's stories about nabbing killers, making arrests, and especially about her fellow officers. "Yeah, I'm pretty handy with a gun. By that I mean, I'm awesome." Blaise laughed. The door to her office opened and Captain Maria Yeong stepped inside, along with Lieutenant Charles Anders and her fellow detective (and friend-with-benefits) Jeremy Redbird. Blaise interrupted her sister. "Sorry, I'm going to have to call you back." She hung up her phone and slowly put it in its cradle. "Can I help you Captain, Lieutenant, and Detective Redbird?"

"Detective Corso, if you would please follow us." Captain Yeong turned on her heel and marched out of the office, with Lieutenant Anders and Redbird on her tail. Blaise quickly scrambled out of her seat and followed Redbird. The four of them walked into Captain Yeong's office. Jeremy and Blaise sat across from Captain Yeong and Lieutenant Anders, who stood in front of them. Blaise and Jeremy exchanged a subtle glance. One thing was on both of their minds. Do they know about us? Captain Yeong spoke first. "The two of you just recently finished investigating the Orphan Killer, correct?"

Blaise nodded. "Yes, Captain. Nabbed him last week."

Lieutenant Anders spoke up. "You both should know that Internal Affairs will be investigating anyone who took part in the arrest of Jon Cassidy, the Orphan Killer, specifically the two of you. Apparently the handling of the entire case was unethical, inappropriate, and if IA gets their way, it'll be both of your badges. Understood?" All Jeremy and Blaise could do was nod, until Captain Yeong dismissed them with a hand. When Jeremy and Blaise were outside the office, the cursing began. "What the fuck?" Blaise cried. "Shh, Blaise!" Jeremy motioned to the door to the office. "They could hear you."

"I don't give a shit who hears. This is absolute bullshit! We didn't do anything wrong!"

Jeremy nodded. " I know we didn't."

"What could they possibly have on us?!"

Jeremy shook his head. "Beats me. I thought we handled the case extremely professionally. But that's what Internal Affairs does. They're rats."

Blaise and Jeremy made their way to the water cooler. "We work our asses off to get killers of the streets, and this is how the repay us? By investigating us and threatening our jobs?"

Jeremy took a sip of his water. "It's ridiculous, I know. But as long as we know we didn't do anything wrong, we'll be fine. And we didn't, right?" He stared at Blaise.

She swallowed her water and tossed the paper cup into the trash. "Of course we didn't! These IA bastards have no idea what they're talking about. We'll be fine." Her and Jeremy made their way back to their offices, and Blaise was sure of one thing. Whether or not she'd done anything wrong, Internal Affairs wasn't going to find anything on her.
