Trapped

Chapter 1

Colonel John Sheppard woke to the sound of dripping water. The air was damp and stuffy and the sound of water echoed in the cave. His head hurt like hell and it felt like someone was stabbing a thousand knives into his left shoulder.

Pushing his upper body up against the wet wall he let his gaze wander over the inner part of the cave. It was almost too dark to see; only a hole at the top of the new wall of rocks and boulders let a small amount of daylight in. Looking around the memory of the cave in came back, and he also remembered that he wasn't alone.

"Doc? Doc? You alive? Doctor Beckett, can you hear me?" His voice was rusty and his mouth was dry so the sound wasn't as strong as it used to be.

"Colonel! What a relief that you are alive! Are you alright, son?" John had found his flashlight and let the light flow over the inner part of the cave.

"I'm fine, doc, just a headache and bad shoulder. I'll manage, what about you?"

"I'm fine, some scratches here and there and a headache, but other than that, fine." The cave grew silent for a second before Doctor Beckett remembered another member of the team.
"Lieutenant Cadman, did she manage." A sudden worry washed over them.

"Cadman? Is she he…" the memory of them going into the cave came back and he quickly shone the light towards the now blocked exit of the cave. They saw her at the same time, lying on her back, unconscious. They were both by her side seconds later.

She looked very pale, and blood was coming out of both her mouth and nose. She woke when Dr. Beckett touched her forehead and looked up at them with unfocused eyes.

"Colonel…"she managed to whisper.

"Don't talk." John ordered and wiped away the blood that ran down over her cheek. He looked at the doctor, whom looked very worried.

"Give me your flashlight, Colonel." He said and John quickly did as told.

As Beckett feared, blood was coming from under her; he carefully pushed his right hand in under her and stopped when he met something hard.

"Shit." He said low to himself.

"What?" John looked at the doctor with a worried frown on his forehead.

"She landed on a spike." He paused and looked down at her. "Laura… it has gone through your vest and into your back. I need you to move your legs for me, can you do that sweetheart?" She slightly moved her right leg and then the left and gave them a weak smile. Checking her from bottom up didn't take too long and he didn't look too optimistic when finished. He looked at John again.

"We need to stop the bleeding, and make her as comfortable as we can." The colonel nodded once and grabbed his backpack. He emptied it and put it under her head. Beckett opened her vest, but didn't remove it. In his believes it was the only thing keeping her from getting paralyzed. He pushed his hand gently under her again, this time between her back and the vest. She whimpered quietly whenever she moved and every time she did a painful expression flashed over the doctor's face.

He managed to stop the bleeding temporally with the little first-aid kit in their backpacks. While Beckett was stopping the bleeding, John found a water-bottle and cleaned the blood of her face. When Beckett was done he remembered the blood in her mouth. She'd been able to spit it out herself so it hadn't been his biggest concern. Taking the bottle from John he tilted her head to the side and cleared her moth for blood.
