Just a little drabble I couldn't get out of my head! Enjoy.
When the crude spaceship landed upon the Moon's surface, she laughed. What little remained of her, what little lived on, laughed. Not to mock, or to protest, or even from insanity. When the man, she would never learn his name was Neil Armstrong, stepped out of the craft dressed in that ridiculous suit, she laughed again. There was no malice intended. Nor was she mocking them. But still she laughed. The man could hear her, but he could not see her, and thus she was dismissed as nothing more than a space hallucination.
What remnants remained of the Moon Kingdom was hidden behind a barrier that only her daughter could one day break down. At least that much she could do for her precious child. The man would not see the ruin of her palace, of what little remained of her kingdom once so grand. Watching him from the confines of the computer's cameras, from what little of her lingered on in the computer's memory, she smiled.
And Queen Serenity laughed.
She laughed, and laughed, until tears would have rolled down her face, and even then some more.
Only once the man and the spacecraft were gone did she finally speak, her words ghostly but full of joy and relief. "She thought she would destroy us. Thank the Powers That Be that what we did was enough."
Knowing that there was still life upon Earth meant that there was still hope. Hope for a better future, for her daughter to yet return, for Metallia to one day be finally, fully defeated.
The long-dead Queen laughed.
