What should have actually happened after Alex was shot. That fact that she survived should not have come as a surprise to the Olivia that we know.

"Stay with me, Alex."

Olivia was kneeling by Alex, pressing her hand into Alex's shoulder. She gasped as she saw the amount of blood seeping through her fingertips.

"They're coming right now, you're going to be okay."

Siren could be heard in the distance, an ambulance was on its way. Elliot's footsteps slapped the pavement lightly as he came closer.

"Alex!?"

He exclaimed as he saw her lying there. The ambulance arrived and Alex was hauled into it. Olivia leapt up the step, as she had done with so many victims before, with a breathless murmur of,

"I'll ride,"

Followed by,

"I'm not going to leave you, sweetheart."

As soon as the door was closed, Elliot grunted in frustration and pounded his fist into the wall. He held his head in his hands for a moment, then shook his head to clear it. After he had caught his breath, he hailed a cab and told the driver to drive to the closest ER.

At the hospital, Olivia was holding tightly onto Alex's uninjured hand while the doctors connected her to the monitoring equipment.

"You need to leave so we can operate on her ma'am" said one of the doctors.

"I promised her I wouldn't let go!"

"You can watch from just outside, but we have to operate on her now, quickly, we don't have time to get her to theatre."

Elliot had found them and promised the doctors that he would get Olivia out. He put one hand on her shoulder and she looked up at him. Gently, he took her wrist and unhooked her hand from Alex's slim fingers.

"Come on," he whispered "we have to let them help her." Olivia nodded and let him steer her out of the room.

A/N Of course, Olivia won't give up that easily. There's lots more to come. Please let me know if you are interested in reading more of this, it's my first fanfic so any constructive criticism is very welcome.
