Ok this is a random one shot that technically can be used anywhere and you can choose which character you think it is about. The song lyrics are "Strength Through Music" by Amanda Palmer, well worth a listen! It's a really sad song and I was listening to it on holiday and this story just came into my head. The song was originally written about and in memory of victims of school shootings, specifically the Columbine High School massacre. Hope you all like it. Please review if you do

They had met exactly three weeks ago today. She was new to the school and had been given the seat next to him in morning registration. Their friendship had instantly hit it off, and they were soon chattering away about all their common interests, of which there were many. Their timetables were almost identical too, and it being so close to the start of term they managed to get seats together in nearly every lesson. Others commented. They didn't care.

That morning wasn't supposed to be any different to the others. Meet in the hallway, find their friends in the form room, hang out until the teacher arrived and then start the day as usual. And he was planning to ask her something. Something special

Don't bother blaming
his games and guns
he's only playing
and boys they just want to have fun

Walking to school that morning, he was slightly distracted from his brother's usual games and laughter, only joining in half heartedly. None of them seemed to notice though, the bright sunny day making all their moods light and happy. Finally they reached the junction, and the brothers split off, waving and calling goodbye as they headed to their separate schools. They would meet there again that evening to retrace their steps back to their home, hopefully with another member to their party.

and packed his bag
he hung his walkman
around his neck

He spotted her as soon as she entered the hallway, her eyes looking around for an instant before going straight to his. Headphones were in her ears, but they soon were put away in her coat pocked as she headed over, a smile on her face. He had never seen anyone more beautiful in his eyes.

He entered the hall, walkman in place, hands now steady, mind already empty, soul already dead.

The noise was so alien, so out of place in the sunny school entrance hall that no one seemed to realise what it was.

It is so simple
the way they fall

When the realisation set in, it was already too late. They had already begun to fall

no cry, no whimper
no sound at all

He felt himself hit the floor, something crashing into him hard, the breath knocked out of him. He lay still for a few moments, unsure what to do, his mind frozen on the sight he had last seen before the ceiling he now saw.

The screaming had begun now. That and the sound of running feet, shouts and cries

Realisation finally set in. He sat up carefully, looking around

tick tick tick tick tick

So many, just lying there, including the boy himself, the cause of all the destruction lying beside his outstretched hand

tick tick tick tick tick

He looked around again. He saw her, saw her lying there on the ground in front of him. He saw the blood

tick tick tick tick

She could have been sleeping
