A/N: I watched "Death Without Dishonour" the other day and it annoyed me that we didn't get to see a Jim/Jean make up scene. So I decided to write one :) The line about black magic is from Fawlty Towers, I thought it fit them pretty well too. Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
I Know
Jim watched as Jean sat in stunned silence, absorbing all of what he had told her about Bill.
"So you can give me some credit for being able to read people," he said after a moment.
"And I can't, is that it?" she demanded, making to leave the room.
"Jean," he said quietly, putting a hand out to stop her, "I don't want to start another argument with you."
She looked him square in the eye, "Well, you may be able to read people, Jim Taggart, but you have no idea how to deal with them."
Before she could try and move away again he reached out and took her hand, heartened that despite her harsh words she didn't pull away. "I'm sorry Jean," he told her sincerely, "I didn't mean to hurt you – or Alison – but...she's my little girl, Jean, I can't just...I...I only want what's best for her."
Jean looked down at their joint hands for a few moments, pleased that he could still read her well enough to know what was really bothering her.
"I know Jim," she told him, lifting her head, "I know."
"Does this help you to remember why you married me?" he asked after a brief pause.
Jean fought off a smile, "My mother always said it was black magic."
"Well she'd know," he replied, unable to suppress his small grin at her words as he rubbed his thumb across the back of her hand.
Jean smiled, "I do love you Jim; I wouldn't get upset with you if I didn't care."
Jim nodded, "I know, Jean," he paused, "you and Alison are all that matter to me, I love you both, very much," he admitted.
Jean smiled and squeezed his hand, "I know that too."
