From the Ashes
Alice "Firefall" Carlton wasn't exactly pleased with her lover, but she understood his situation. It wasn't easy living with the curse of their kind. Sure, being a mutant was hard, what with anti-mutant rallies and all, but being pyrokinetic? That was a whole new ball field. They faced the same persecution as the rest of their species, if not more. Fire of any kind was blamed on them at every chance. And then, then there was a pyrokinetic's self-evolution. The stages in which their inner fires burned. Every fire started out small, and only grew until the life was smothered out; the equivalent of death in their eyes. But some pyros' fire becomes an underburn; the kind of fire that only seemed diminished to the naked eye, but underneath the heat only waited for something to fuel it. Something to catch onto.
It was waiting for the fire to become healthy again that drove most pyrokinetics insane. Firefall knew her lover's predicament, had experienced it herself, and she was not about to lose her mate to impatience. Not when his fire was about too respark.
