She was silent for a while; her face tilted skyward, eyes closed, enjoying both the cool of the wind, and the warmth of the sun, on her face. At length she spoke, "I know why I'm here, what I'm here for. Why are you here?"
"Nowhere else to go," said Jean, "to turn. Well, why are you here?"
"A favor, for a friend," Jaime replied, "Don't see him much, but all the same, a favor."
"What kind of friend would ask you to come to this--place, this--ARGGH!"
"He didn't ask me to come here, really, just keep an eye on someone."
"Oh," said Jean, relieved "Okay, I was freaking there. On who? I mean, who did your friend ask you to keep an eye on?"
"No one's supposed to know, so I'm not going to give you a straight answer."
"Well, at least, who's your friend?"
"He has the same name as me," Jaime replied with a mischievous smile, as if she knew something Jean didn't. "Except the middle name-- it's James, not Jaime. Logan James Howlett, you probably know him. He's a pretty good guy, has a good rep, lives in New York. That's where you said you were from, New York. Westchester, that's where he lives." Jaime looked up, smelled the air, and closed her eyes. She giggled as if she was reliving one of her few good memories, and opened her eyes. "I love this time of year" She was silent a bit longer, and then walked away.
Jean laughed, "Oh, Logan, you didn't. You can't talk to me for Erik, so you send someone else. I guess you're just trying to look out for me, one way or another. Oh man, I love you. Why could I never tell you that? I just hope I get the chance." She pondered this for a moment, then ran after Jaime. "Wait up! J! Wait for me!" she yelled, feeling like a small child.
Little to her knowledge, Jean was being watched. "About time," said the Watcher, "It is good to hear you laugh, Jeannie, really good. Great, here comes Erik. Time to report to Logan," and with that, she was gone.
