Clove's POV
It is so quiet that I can hear my clock ticking. Just five minutes. Five minutes left until I can go see Cato. I quietly open my window and climb out. I walk to the end of the street and through the woods to the lake. It is so beautiful with the moon shining down over it. Cato is already here waiting for me. I sit down next to him.
This is what we do every Wednesday night. Our parents are enemies and forbid Cato and I to be friends. But as you can see we break this rule. We are really good friends, but lately I've been started to like him more than as a friend. Sadly, I don't think he feels the same way for me. I'm fifteen and he's sixteen, all the girls at school have crushes on him.
"Hey Clove," he greets me.
"Hey," I answer.
"Isn't the lake so pretty tonight?" he asks.
"Yeah it is. I love it." I say.
"Sorry, but I can't stay long tonight. Got to wake up early and study for a big test." Cato says.
"It's ok. I have extra chores before school, so I have to get up early too." I say. I sneak back to my house and get in bed.
*The next morning*
"Clove!" my dad shouts from the kitchen.
"What?" I yell.
"You got a letter in the mail!" he shouts. I go into the kitchen and look at it.
"Sorry dad but I'll have to look at it later. I have extra chores, remember?"
"Oh, right," he says. I walk out and do my chores. Then I go to school. I rarely get letters so it was on my mind all day. After I get home and finish my homework I go into the kitchen and find the letter on the counter. I open it and read:
Clove, You have been chosen to train for the Hunger Games along with your district partner, Cato. You are expected to be at the Training Center in your district at 10:00 tomorrow for more details. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Your mayor,
Sabrina Anderson
