This is actually the third one-shot writing exercise taken from Rhino7 (who got it from Scribbler): Pick a character. Now put your iPod on shuffle and write a fic to the song that comes on. You're supposed to finish before the song does, but I'm a little slow so I let it play 3 times. I have gotten some really interesting results (to me anyway) so far. Any feedback would be appreciated!!! Without further ado, I give you:
Sephiroth
"Reptilia" by The Strokes
The realization hit him like a blitzkrieg, sharp and brutal and life-changing. Life-ending. It was one thing to look at Hojo's labs and know what he did there…it was entirely another to know you were a by-product, nay, the shining GLORY of those glass tubes and needles. Everything in that place was cold and empty and poisonous and wrong and reeked of the taint he fought every time he closed his eyes.
It made a lot of sense when he thought about it, after the initial shock wore off anyway. He was a weapon after all, why so surprised that he was man-made like any other blade or sidearm?
You sound so angry, just calm down! You found me, what's the matter? He hadn't known what to say—how could he?—and that truly was the beginning of the final descent for him, losing that one last real connection he had. Looking back at everything, discord rumbled in the pit of his stomach: the senseless manipulations, being ordered around by the fools who really thought they were better than he. He, who was a destroyer, a vengeful god, awakening into what he'd just realized was his destiny.
Mother. Ending this joke of world and reigning over the chaos that would result, and knowing no one could oppose him. The last time he looked in a mirror he understood, Mako-green eyes alight and dangerous in the dim light of dawn. The one-winged angel was truly born at that moment, born into the role he'd been meant to fill all along.
This world is not for you, Mother had cooed, echoing from the deepest recesses of his mind. The wait is over. We shall have what is ours.
Glass shattered. Sephiroth smiled.
