Draco Malfoy and the monster under his bed
It was a Saturday morning. Everybody was already in the Great Hall at breakfast when Draco Malfoy and the other boys from his dormitory came tiredly trotting in. Draco had his head drawn – the others seemed to be mad at him. As soon as they were seated at the Slytherin table, Pansy leaned over to Goyle and asked, "What happened last night to make Snape come?"
Ron, Harry and the other Gryffindors sitting nearby and were making long ears and George and Fred discreetly threw a pair of extendable ears under Draco's chair.
"What was going on," grunted Crabbe, "was that Draco claims there was a green monster under his bed. Anyway, he started screaming in the middle of the night: monster, monster. We checked and of course there was none. So, we went back to sleep. And hour later – I just dreamed that I had become best in class – and he started screaming again. This time even louder and more high pitched than before. We are up again and searched the entire dorm, but also every corner. Nothing."
"And then," Theodore Nott continued, yawning, "we lay down again. Not two hours later, the same theater: Draco started to yell and said he had seen and heard a green monster under his bed. Then I've had enough and I yelled at him, he should finally shut up and let us sleep. Suddenly Snape stood in the door and wanted to know what was going on. Draco immediately went to him and told him a crazy story about a green monster that was under his bed. Snape spoke a visibility spell or something like that, and of course there was no monster. Snape was incredibly angry. Anyways, Draco isn't allowed to go to Hogsmeade the next two times and his parents have been informed as well. He also has to write a page-long essay about his bed monster."
"What about you?" Millicent asked. "Do you have to do extra work too?"
"Yeah," growled Blaise Zabini. "Today, we have to polish the trophies and medals in the cup room in Muggle style. Thanks, Draco."
Draco made himself smaller than before and looked at his plate.
At the Gryffindor table Lee, Fred and George started to grin. "Do you have anything to do with the monster?" Hermione asked suspiciously.
"Yeah, last week I overheard how Slytherin's prefect, Goyle, and the others revealed the new password for the common room," Lee reported quietly. When we had our free time yesterday, we snuck into Malfoy's dorm and…"
"So, that's why you wanted Dad's invisibility cloak," Harry interrupted.
Lee grinned and continued. "There we hid a green plush monster under Draco's bed."
"That," Fred continued, "we found in the Easter surprise box we got from you and Hermione. We placed a spell on this plush monster that makes it work only at night and only for an hour or two. In addition, we put an anti-spy spell on it. We didn't want anyone to find or see it except Draco. Seems to have worked well."
"Tell me, Harry," George continued, "can we borrow your invisibility cloak again? We want our monster back. Maybe we can use it again later."
"Look," called Dean, "there's the mail. Looks like Draco is getting a howler."
And right, Draco's eagle owl landed in front of him and threw a howler on the table. Draco opened it with shaky hands and his father's voice, Lucius Malfoy, was heard:
"Bed Monster? My son sees green monsters under his bed?! Are you five or fifteen years old, that you see a monster under the bed? Next time, it'll probably be a monster in the wardrobe."
"Wardrobe monsters," whispered Fred and George in unison. "Thank you for the good idea, Mr. Malfoy."
I hope you enjoyed it.
