So... sorry for disappearing for all those months. Life is hectic at the moment and wish that I would encounter some smooth sailing (as I'm sure all you readers want that as well). There are some more info on what is gong on right now at the bottom.

Anyway, here is a short one-shot that I quickly wrote up as a bribe so that you all won't kill me.

Between Us

He was always between them. They would go on a date and he would sit in the middle. When they held hands, he would shove his face in between to be given a chin scratch. Even their first flight, he had come between the two.

"Do you think we will ever have a moment to ourselves?" Astrid asked Hiccup once.

"Do you want the honest answer or the one that will make you happy?"

"I guess that's all the answer I needed."

They had been sitting in the cove, just relaxing and trying to ignore Toothless and his playfulness. Currently, he was splashing around the small lake, trying to catch fish and unknowingly soaking them with every pounce. A large dragon repeatedly jumping in water tends to make a big splash.

As Hiccup watched his best friend splash in the small pond, he reflected back on the odd relationship he had with Astrid regarding Toothless. It was then that he realized something. Without Toothless, none of this would be occurring right now. Without Toothless, he would never have gotten so good at dragon training classes that Astrid Hofferson had been ranked as only second best, resulting in her tracking him down and discovering Toothless, leading to the flight in the clouds, the Red Death, the missing leg and the new, budding relationship. It was Toothless that brought them together and it was something that Hiccup hadn't truly thanked him for, he now realized.

Glancing at Astrid, he whistled for his dragon to come on over. Toothless bounded over to them, quickly deposited his head right between their laps, eyes begging to be petted. Astrid couldn't help but laugh at his large puppy eyes and granted him his wish.

"Will he always come between us?" she asked, while Toothless purred with joy.

Hiccup smiled as he placed his on top of the dragon's head and interlacing their fingers, his eyes never leaving hers.

"Yes. Like a bridge, he'll come between us. Not a wall."

So, I am still working on "New Discoveries" and "The Rite". I have them all planed out, it's just finding the time to write them now. "Accidental Collisions" is also being revised and I have started planing the future for that series. Please go read my two crossover stories and review them because they need some lovin'. And lastly, my story "Letting Go of Control" is in a serious rut right now. I need some new ideas, so please go review that also. I will return soon!

Keep writing!
