The Hunt
"Fast, you are," Ladislaw commented, having to grab a tree to steady himself as the centaur dashed past him with a mission to somewhere.
His voice seemed to surprise the centaur, for he skidded to a halt and turned around to face to curious wizard. "Who are you?" he demanded gruffly.
"Ladislaw," Ladislaw answered mildly.
"And why are you in my forest?"
"I did not realise it was your forest."
"Do not you humans call it the 'Forbidden Forest?'"
"I was not aware of that."
"It is not safe in here for those who do not know how to protect themselves."
"I simply came to see what Hogwarts was all about. After all, I am not from around here."
"Your accent tells me that. The centaurs are not totally immune to the ways of humans. Now, I advise you leave; it is not safe for you at this very moment."
"I can handle myself. I have a wand. What could possibly be stronger than a wand?"
This caused the centaur to really study Ladislaw in all of his young confidence. The creature almost… scoffed. "Oh, there is so much your young minds need to learn," he said.
Ladislaw frowned. "That is what I'm here for, I suppose." Ladislaw shrugged. "I'm not part of the school, but there's so many students here nobody would notice."
The centaur frowned. "Now, young human, I strongly urge you to leave this forest at once. It is not the place to be right now."
"Says you, I suppose?"
"I urge you to leave."
"Why?"
A sound of at least twenty hooves could be heard approaching the clearing Ladislaw had found himself in with the centaur.
"Because," the wise creature hissed, stepping closer to the young wizard, "this is the night we hunt."
Ladislaw opened his mouth to give a response, but in that moment at least ten other centaurs joined their comrade and all were heading towards Ladislaw. Their mouths were open and their eyes glistening in hunger.
The boy's screams were silenced by bearing teeth and an attack on his soft skin. With a hunger like no other, the centaurs picked him up and carried the struggling wizard away.
The pack was led by none other than the very same centaur who had ruthlessly lured him into the clearing. Feeling no remorse about the attack on a human, Bane led them away to feed.
The boy would keep them fed for at least two weeks.
I know centaurs don't eat humans really, but Bane was a bit of a butthead, wasn't he?
