Ever hero has a line.
It may not be as far off as we would like to think. After all, who really does the saving? Without crime, and misery, and pain, there would be no heroes. There must always be a villain. An adversary for our valiant champion to battle, again and again, before ultimately succeeding.
But, not every hero has a villain. Yes, there must always be a villain, but there doesn't always have to be a hero.
Heroes are overrated. Glory and happiness and fame. Overrated. Just one more little thing to push them closer to the line. Because, when you fight crime for that long, eventually, you start to see it from the other side of the jail cell.
There isn't much of a distinction between good and evil, and right and wrong. Eventually, your morals become a little more skewed, and you stop caring so much about what's right anymore. It's only this once, right? No one will know…right? So what's to stop you from doing it just this one time…or maybe a few more times…or maybe even permanently.
As our hero makes his way down into darkness, I can't help but blame the people of our shining city. After all, isn't it our fault? Didn't we drive him to this? Or, maybe I should just side with the rest of you, and say the blame lies with him. After all, no one made him become a hero. Now that our valiant hero has begun his descent, I can't help but raise my glass to our newest villain. Maybe next time our hero won't be so naïve to think that we won't turn on him like a pack of hungry jackals.
Now the line is blurred.
Which side will our hero choose? Will he return to the pack? Or will he abandon us to our fate?
Personally, I think we'll get what we deserve.
