I still can't believe I wrote a serious poem...
Oh well. I blame Code Geass, Clovis and the tragic irony of it all.
It's been a while since I came up with this, and I'm not sure how satisfied I am with it any more (actually, scratch the "any more", it's not like I made up my mind in the first place), but I don't think it's horrible, so I thought I might as well post it here. I'd be happy to hear opinions.

Every verse is based on a line from either the respective Sound Drama or the anime. If you recognize any, you deserve some cake - however, you won't get mine.
I'm evil, after all.

Title: Fool's Mate
Summary: "(...)It is so named because White must play foolishly to allow this mate."
Characters: Clovis; mentions of Marianne, Lelouch and some others.

Fool's Mate

Her eyes were burning fire,
her movements dancing flame.
When they turned cold, the world stopped moving
- things would never be the same.

Clever, proud, annoying
- so cunning that it hurt.
He watched him fall to pieces
and never said a word.

Words like freshly crafted spears
burned his soul and cut his flesh.
They were lost, forever gone
and left a gaping gash.

*

Years went by and people passed
- he watched the distant crowd.
But whom to blame and whom to hate
he never figured out.

The match they never finished
never left his mind.
He went there in his honour,
but once they called him kind.

She thought him sentimental
and soon was proven right.
He was his own damnation,
gave up without a fight.

*

Gentle colours, wistful sighs,
empty days and lonely nights.
His purpose gone, his feelings lost,
the war was won, but great the cost.

A charming smile and empty words
- of course he didn't care.
It was all pointless, made no sense,
and life just wasn't fair.

Clinging to his title,
hoping not to break.
Cursing his own weakness
and knowing it's too late.

*

He stared into his eyes
so hard and cold and cruel.
Fear, confusion and regret
- he always was a fool.
