Sweet Sonata

By M.S.J.

Based on the horror "The Grudge" by Takeshi Shimizu

Prologue:

The soft playing of the violin had put a gentle vibe in the terrorizing home of the Matsumoto's. Mrs. Matsumoto was a violinist who often played when her husband went to work. The couple never had children and they never seemed too happy with their life. Mrs. Matsumoto was a battered wife, always beaten by her husband. All she could do to comfort herself was play a song with her wooden violin.

One day, Mrs. Matsumoto got sick. She was taken to the hospital for recovery, but she knew she never had hope for being cured. She had a negative attitude due to her husband's careless and emotionless reaction on her illness. She eventually died filled with anger and depression. Though, whatever happened to her violin?

Verse 1:

"Damn it, how am I going to afford this?"

Nanako Ishiwara, a young violinist, was very talented in playing the violin. Despite her skill, she could never find (mostly afford) the right violin. The only violin she found to her liking was the one she saw outside an antique violin shop. It was the only store in her town she could find that sells violins. She'd stare at the violin for a moment, then tried to devise plans to find the money to buy it.

She knows that she desired for it, but it usually gave her an ominous feeling. A feeling of malice and terror, yet she ignored it.

A few weeks later, Nanako finally purchased the violin. She came home, but it was odd. She didn't seem satisfied. When she was walking home after buying the violin, she felt as if she was being clouded with a sudden fear. A dark force, following her, desiring to devour her soul. It somewhat felt…terrifying? Whispers came into her ear, but not succinct to hear.

"Shinu… shi--"

Nanako turned, yet no one was there. The feeling strengthened once more. What could it have been?
