Hello all! I'm giving all of you a heads up: I'm a bit unsure about this. Some may find what this story centers on a bit OOC; I wrote this in like an hour and a half and it's my last day of Thanksgiving break, needless to say, I'm a tad bored. But yet, something deep down inside says that it is not OOC, it's just a different take on things. Regardless of what you think of this, I used the song "I'll Follow You Into the Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie for inspiration. Love goes to my loyal army of readers.

He promised her that they would forever be together-whatever the cost. And with that thought, she knew what had to be done. The people who made her world beautiful and worth living in were gone, so what was the point of going on?

As Maria sat on the ledge of her roof, she gazed out to the pavement below her. She could jump if she wanted too; it would be quick and painful, like the death Tony had to endure. She wasn't afraid of the pain; nothing could be as painful as a broken heart, she thought. Maria got to her feet, and closed her eyes; but something stopped her. She knew that Tony would want her to go on, even if he wasn't there beside her. But at that moment her reality seemed clouded, her sense of logic gone. After all, love makes you do crazy things.

When Maria opened her eyes, a darkness that she never knew surrounded her. Above her was a sky that went on forever, dotted with stars. This can't be right, Maria thought. She was alone in an incomprehensible darkness, confused and still not sure about what was going on.

Maria buried her face in her hands and began to sob. Even here, wherever here was, she was alone. A cold wind blew across her, reminding Maria of how alone she truly was. And now, there was nothing she could do; she was stuck in this cold, dark, desolate place forever.

"Why you crying?"

Maria lifted her head and gasped. The source of the voice held a hand out to her and helped her to her feet. His hand felt cold against hers, and seemed to be drained of every bit of color. As the pair navigated their way through the darkness, Maria felt that love rekindled. It was as if her still warm hand was what held their love. She feared that when the warmth of her hand was extinguished, their love would fade.

But when he led her to a small boat tied to a dock, she knew everything would be okay. They were together; and even though sacrifices had to made for them to be together, at least here, nothing could get to them. As their boat bobbed up and down in the calm water, Maria gazed at him with the curiosity of a child.

"Where are we going?"

He looked into those wide, brown eyes that he had missed so much. After some silence, he held his had to her cheek and smiled.

"Somewhere; where we'll be together forever."

At that, Maria smiled and looked above her once again at the darkness that no longer seemed so dark. She noticed her hands had gone cold since boarding the boat, and she knew what he meant by "somewhere." And yet, she wasn't scared of their love going cold; for they would be together forever.
