Being the Goalie

Disclaimer: I don't own CSI or any of its characters.
WARNING: Thanks to MBInc for the beta-ing! So here, hot off the presses is my response to the Post War fiction challenge… I'll get it beta-ed and then maybe repost it or something… This is in Sara's POV.

"Come on, Cath, it's just an extra hour out for a hockey game!" I can't believe this. I know it's a school night, but an extra hour won't be bad! And it's just a hockey game, something I've wanted to take Lindsey to for the last month! It's a sort of a 'bonding with the wild teen' night and I really want to go. When Cath gets stubborn, however, I feel like I'm being the goalie. She shoots at my idea, I block it and hope nothing slips by.

"Don't 'come on' me, Sara! It is a school night and her grades in English and French have been slipping! She needs more sleep and probably more study time, so the answer is no," she speaks with a commanding tone. Uh-oh, this isn't good. This is going from an argument about her curfew to an argument about her grades. I think her grades are fine, so what if English and French are slipping, it's a hard subject and it's close to Christmas. What kid wants to study around Christmas? Well, other than me, of course.

"Please Cath, it's just on extra hour! I'll have her back quickly and she'll get to bed right away! Please, I've wanted to take her to this for a long time, it's just a bonding night! You know, father… mother… mom… Mom's girlfriend and daughter bonding time!" I stumble over my words, because I'm still not sure what I am to both of them.

Uh-oh. I just got THE look. Yes, the look that strikes terror into the hearts of the most hardened criminals. I'm about to be chewed out. I brace myself for the verbal onslaught, hoping that I come out with my pride still in tact. Oh, who am I kidding, I'll be lucky to pull my dead pride out by its skin.

I'm fairly shocked when I feel her latch on to my face, her lips smashing into mine in a heated passion. I return the kiss full force while being pushed back to fall onto the couch. We land with a thud, my hands around her tiny waist, gripping as she thoroughly inspects my mouth with her tongue. God, this woman can kiss! She pulls away just as I'm about to see spots from the lack of oxygen.

"I'm glad that you want to bond with Lindsey, it means a lot to me. I suppose an extra hour won't be too bad, but no later than that!" Raise the roof for Sara Sidle, I've done it again! I'm getting very good at this negotiating, considering I almost always win.

"Thanks, honey," I say as I stand up, slipping on my thick boots and grabbing my long scarf.

"Lindsey, time to go!" I can hear her thudding down the stairs already. That girl looks way too much like her mother. I can't tell if that's going to be a good thing or a bad thing… Lindsey quickly grabs her coat and zips up, having on a nice pair of boots.

"Have fun… But do NOT be home late," Catherine states as I open the front door. I lean in and kiss her softly before continuing out the door.

Sometimes being goalie is fun.
