The Boy.

Ava stared at the men in front of her, well man and boy really. The boy and the man that had to be his father listened to what Mr. Harrington was saying with the same kind of focused attention, that had Ava wondering how Mr. Harrington wasn't squirming under such a intense scrutiny.

This morning Mr. Harrington had announced to her mother and her while they were having breakfast on the terrace that a important man would be coming over in the afternoon to have a business lunch. Terrace, she liked that word because it sounded more important than what it actually meant which she knew was just patio in French ,but to the non speakers or ,the rich people in this case , it was just a fancy way of saying it. Ava didn't know exactly what a business lunch was but she could imagine that it was a lunch where you had to talk about business and as such that the man that would be coming over was a colleague of Mr. Harrington.

But she had been surprised by her mother's reaction at the name of said colleague, the woman went so still she could have passed for the pretty statue of a woman frozen in shock , eyes wide and round and mouth gaping open in a very unladylike that had Ava wanting to point it out like her mother had done in the past , but she knew it wouldn't have gone over well with the woman.

Elizabeth Harrington , formerly known as Lizzy Dubois a name that her new husband had deemed too unflattering and foolish for such a lissome woman ,opinion to which the former Lizzy now Elizabeth had promptly agreed and stopped responding to her nickname forcing everyone to call her by her much more (in her opinion) sophisticated name.

She had taken a deep calming breathe , that was to everyone that knew her the telltale sign of a incoming rant, and delicately placed her silverware

on the even more delicate porcelain plate before opening her mouth and freeing the torrent Ava knew had been building and had opened the eye for.

She watched fascinated as the emotions swirled around the person that was her mother. To everyone that didn't know her Elizabeth was a cool sophisticated and beautiful woman , a successful model and a example of a wife but to those who knew her as Lizzy (as they kept calling her behind her back) she was whirlwind of passion and energy who wasn't afraid to let people know what she thought and felt.

So it was a wonder to Ava to watch the contrast between Elizabeth's cool outside detachment and Lizzy's fiery inside intensity, something she knew only she could see. The bright tangerine field that surrounded her mother's body had brightened even more , becoming almost blinding in its intensity and plumes of swirling ginger had appeared, proof of her excitement.

From what she caught of her mother's rant Bruce Wayne was a immensely important man , not only was his family line the oldest but he was also the richest man in Gotham and according to her also the handsomest , which Ava thought glancing at Mr. Harrington and seeing a citrine sprinkle of annoyance appear didn't seem to please him.

After that , feeling a headache building she had closed the eye and focused on her bowl of cold chocolate, ignoring the rest of the conversation. Now as they stood with the Wayne in the entrance where the three of them had waited for them , she wished like always that she had paid more attention and wondered frantically if there had been made a mention of the man coming with his child.

Said child didn't look much like a child , Ava had to admit. He stood next to his father and with his back straight and broad shoulders ( that looked out of place on a ten year old ) squared ,carried himself very much like him , in his little suit he looked like a smaller model of him. Except for the eyes because unlike his father's blue ones , as calm and still as a lake they had a unfathomable depth to them, the boy's eyes were a blazing green and reflected a mind so sharp she felt that just by looking into them she could cut herself.

But she was curious enough to risk it and opened her mind's eye, almost immediately her physical ones widened.

Around the boy's body was the most fascinating aura she had ever encountered, it was a incandescent and deep blue coiled tightly around his body as if ready to lunge in for the kill at any time, it was a startling contrast to his languid pose and reminded her of the tigers she had seen on the discovery channel all power and strength under graceful bodies.

As her eyes went back to his face she froze when she saw that he was already staring at her, feeling like a deer caught in very powerful and very dangerous headlights. He gave her a dispassionate once over, freeing her from his gaze, and she almost fainted in relief until she realized that everybody was looking at her.

Since she hadn't closed the eye she saw a sparkle of golden amusement in the Wayne man's aura and annoyance in the two other adults. Now closing it she refocused on what was happening around her.

" Ava" Mr. Harrington said "Why don't you take Damian to the game room so Mr. Wayne and I can talk." From the look on his face she knew it wasn't a question.

Stealing a glance in the boy's direction , Damian she corrected herself, she saw him display his first emotion since he had arrived , annoyance could be seen plainly on his face.

"Father-" Damian started to argue turning to the man in question.

"Go with Ava , Damian"

"But-" once again Damian was interrupted as his father repeated just as firmly " Go".

Mouth tightening Damian whipped in her direction making her take a startled step back and glared at her as if it was her fault he couldn't stay. Obviously he hadn't understood that she was here to entertain him so the adults could talk freely as it was always the case with those sorts of gathering. Ava took another step back.

Throwing him a last look , she turned around and scurried towards the hall not once looking back and not caring if he was following or not but she knew that he was , even without hearing his footsteps she could feel the burn of his glare between her shoulders and the oppressing ominousness of his energy building like a storm cloud.

Ava had seen what hid under that carefully constructed façade and what was underneath that 10 year old body was alien and unnerving.

There was more to Damian and Bruce Wayne than met the eye.
