Disclaimer: Im not the infamous J.K
A/N: This isn't my first story but its my first lily and james one. I hope you like it. I tried to gain as many facts from the book as I could.
"Why did you do it? Potter you are so god damn horrible!"
"Me? All I did was teach the slime ball a lesson!"
"And you think it was yours to teach? You forget, I'm the one he insulted!"
"Exactly and yet you do nothing about it!! Why are you so against me helping you?"
"Help? You think that's helping?" Lily suddenly lowered her voice, "he believes what he wants to believe. If I couldn't change his mind what make you think you can? If you really want to help, you would leave me alone Potter. Just leave me and Severus alone."

Lily turned over. Thinking back to that day was painful. Until that day she had been able to withstand Severus's intolerable language towards witches and wizards of her birth. Until that night she had been able to over look his so called friends "pranks". She was even able to overlook every time he had said he loved her.
But that day things had changed. He had called her a mudblood.
She could remember meeting Severus for the first time. Being an innocent child unable to understand her own special abilities and looked down by normal society as a 'wild child', Severus had seemed like a guardian angle in disguise, or at the least a friend on whom she could count upon more than her own sister.

"I know what you are."
"What do you mean?"
"You're…you're a witch" whispered Snape.
Severus had found her, as she had found him, indescribably interesting and as if by nature they soon became inseparable. Summers were spent in the park or the woods dreaming of another world. Between them a naive hope was born for a better life.
In what had seemed like no time at all September had come and with in brought the letter of acceptance into Hogwarts School of witch craft and wizardry. It seemed at last their paths were bound for a new destination. It seemed at last, the light at the end of the tunnel was approaching.
"Freak!"
The day she would finally board the Hogwarts express. That day she lost all respect her sister had ever had for her. And yet that day she also lost the respect she had ever given her sister.
That day she realised her petunia could no longer love her for who she was, because she was all the things her sister wanted to be.
"You'd better be in slytherin," said Snape, encouraged that she had brightened a little.
"Slytherin?"
One of the boys sharing the compartment, who had shown no interest at all in lily or Snape or until that point, looked round at the word. He was slight, black haired like Snape but with that indefinable air of having been well cared for, that Snape conspicuously lacked.
It had also been the day she meet James Potter, neither of them knowing the other would help them to change history.
She would often look back on that day as a day of loss. She was parted from her sister and sorted away from Severus. Yet at the same time, she could not help but wonder if it was all part of a bigger plan?

Lily rolled over again as her memory flicked from year to year, finally stopping in year 5.
It was a summer day, and she had just finished her D.A.T.A O.W.L as had Severus. She could remember a distant between them by now. She had used to find him comforting and someone she could easily love, and it was no secret that he had loved her also. Yet circumstances dissolved with the rise of one man.
Lord Voldemort.
Terror spread throughout the land, whispers of an undying soul reached the ears of even those tucked safely away at Hogwarts.
And as every day passed Snape begin to question whether this was a man to fear or to join. Lily started feeling uneased by his word and the friend she had once loved, became a creeping unsettlement in the back of her mind.
"I'm sorry."
"I'm not interested."
"I'm sorry!"
"Save your breath."
The memory of losing Snape as a friend was clearer to her than any other.
She turned and climbed back through the portrait hole, but Snape caught a hold of her ankle.
"Please let go."
"No, lily I can't! I love you, don't you know that?"
Tears began to stain his face as she tried to resist him and when she spoke it was a voice of pity to much for him to bear.
"Please just let go of me. I know you do, but I can't love you Severus, I can't! Let go!!"
At this point a hand reached through the portrait hole and began to tug lily through it. Snape let go and fell to his knees, looking up in time to see his hearts only desire in the arms of James potter before a white light knocked him backwards.
The portrait hole closed and Severus's bounded body was no longer to be seen.
Once loved, once misunderstood, once feared and now pitied.

Lily rolled over for the last time that night as sleep overcame her tangled history.
